Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Qatar cheap ex EU flights

Dear HFPers. Do we think cheap Qatar business class flights from various EU airports are a thing of the past, or is there any sign they might return in 2024/25? I miss the 1700 euros flights from Copenhagen or Stockholm to Bangkok. Apart from being a great deal, they nearly got me to BA silver.

I booked FCO – DOH – BKK – DOH – BHX for €1400 in business class only a few months ago and flew this month. I don’t think cheap QR fares are a thing of the past, they’re just harder to find and on more obscure routes than in the past. I only found my flight by pure chance after a lot of time searching different routes.

I’ve got SOF-DOH-SIN-DOH-DUB in a couple of months booked for about £1700, so slightly more expensive than you’re looking for but not much.

There are definitely fewer deals available, but some are still there

    Hello HFPers

Has anyone any intel on good ex eu Qatar business class flight to Bangkok for Jan/Feb? I’ve tried a few dummy bookings and best so far is approx £1900 from Milan. Hoping for cheaper.

For anyone interested I have done dummy bookings to BKK for most/all of the European cities Qatar flies from. I used the last two weeks of Jan as my dates (or thereabouts) Rome and Milan (when converted from euro to pound at 1.16) came out cheapest at £1760 and £1820 respectively for business class. I think I’ll go for Rome. Does anyone think there’ll be a sale or promo (I know no one knows so probably a silly question)
Anyway, wanted to share my findings.

There’s some anecdotal evidence that travel markets are softening a bit. I think it’s more apparent for transatlantic flights but some discounting to Asia is creeping in. In your position I’d be holding off booking for now.

Royal Jordanian + Cathay are doing Tunis to Hong Kong via BKK (with unlimited stopovers in BKK) for £1200

Sri Lankan are still doing AUH-CMB-CGK for £800, and there are cheap flights from Jakarta CGK up to BKK

Both more faff than a fairly simple Qatar ex-EU, but cheaper options are out there already!

1700 euros to BKK? I paid 800E COP-BKK. Admittedly it was about 8 years back…

Thanks all. I’m doing Qatar ex-EU to get the tier points to (nearly) keep me Silver BAEC. So needs to be Qatar.

Had to google that. Pretty sure you mean CPH Copenhagen, not COP for Cooperstown, which is a grass strip in NY state. And yeah, I think a couple of things may have happened over the last decade that impacted air travel supply & demand. I got AF J from BHX to SIN for £800 back in 2008 but I don’t really think that helps determine what’s fair value today.

Too quick for my brain, had to chuckle though, as was actually thinking of Colombian Pesos at the time 🙂

Since you can buy Avios at 1p each pretty easily, then the floor price for me EDI-HEL-NRT is £650 (ie 65,000 avios) plus c £300 – so less than £2k return and a cancellable ticket too!

    Or EDI-DOH-Osaka on Qatar 80k + £200. Etc.
