Hello, I am moving to barcelona later this year and I have a decent pot of avios but also some upgrade vouchers.

is anyone able to tell me the avios and tax costs of flights from barcelona to phuket? I am trying to decide whether i should fly back to england to use the upgrade vouchers of it its probably going to be better to just use the avios on qatar out of barcelona

BA doesn’t fly to Phuket, but you should be able to get any pricing you want from doing dummy bookings on BA and/or QR websites. That will also show you availability, which is crucial!

I recently flew Finnair HEL->BKK in Business for 62500 Avios + ~£90 taxes, then returned Qatar HKT->LHR for 75000 Avios + ~£230 taxes. Booked last year so may have changed since then but hopefully a helpful guide! Given BA only flies old LGW-based 777s to BKK with no club suite, and charges 200k Avios + £475 return (IIRC), it seemed like the much better option, even if a companion or upgrade voucher could reduce the Avios to 100-120k.

No it doesnt and that is why I am finding out data as a stopover is required in both scenarios it seems like not bothering with the upgrade voucher may end up being cheaper.

If i search on BA it requires two changes but if I search on qatar it has one hop however my account has an issue so i cant transfer any avios to it and was hoping somebody would know the figures

What was the ‘cost’ of the London to Helsinki leg? Avios or rev, and did you have a hotel overnighter?

@davet, are you saying QR website is showing availability but no prices? If you link your accounts it shouldn’t actually matter where your avios are.

From EDI we paid 12000 avois and £46.78 each to HEL in economy. Overnight hotel and then on to BKK. Coming back from PHUKET on one ticket to EDI but need another overnight hotel due to time of flights.

@Hbommie 9600 Avios + £130 in business, on one of their A350 services so AirLounge seats. Cash fares seemed high on the day I was travelling so I got over 1p/avios on that. If I was to do it again, I would probably book economy and paid the small seat reservation fee (~£30 from memory) to sit in the Premium Economy section on the A350. I flew same day allowing a 5 hour connection time for the 20:50 departure from HEL->BKK. As it happened, we landed early so I got a bit bored in HEL, even with access to the AY lounges.

@davel, @Hbommmie, @danfog you folks are missing a trick here, positioning flights from UK-HEL should be booked via QR not AY or BA, Base is 9k economy, 18k business, the latter probably only worth it on LHR A350 SofaLounge rotations. From Monday 31/3 Edinburgh or Aberdeen to Bergen which is in Finnair Zone 1 will be 6500 avios.

I agree re the business v economy on the positioning up to HEL.

Bergen is zone 2? Is this changing?
