Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Qatar Airways or BA? (newbie question)

  • 1 post

I am flying to India & to ensure I get Avios points I want to use a One World airline, giving me a choice of flying Qatar or BA to India. I have never flown Qatar before but feel most Middle Eastern airlines are excellent (and better than BA). My question (and excuse my ignorance) is, would I get the same number of Avios points by flying Qatar as opposed to BA if I book with a BA Amex card?
    Thanking you in advance

I don’t know the answer, but as BA is moving from mileage based to spend based, you might even get more Avios on a QR flight

But personally, I wouldn’t let number of Avios that you might earn be the deciding factor, as Avios earned from flying are quite trivial these days, unless you are a frequent flyer.

Look at the convenience of flight times, and non stop versus a change of aircraft.

You would almost certainly get better service on QR, but as long as the aircraft has Club Suite then most BA flights will give you a comfortable seat/bed, and you should get a good night’s sleep outbound.

You could mix and match, outbound with BA, return with Qatar, but be aware that if you suffer a lengthy delay flying home on QR, EC/UK261 does not apply to inbound flights on non-EU carriers.

As long as you don’t mind just a thin layer (mattress topper) separating you and the filth/rubbish in BA’s seat crevices

Which cabin are you planning to fly in? That would affect the advice you get I think.
