Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Qatar Airways flexible (x2) reward availability

I couldnt get an answer out of Qatar Airways Live Chat on this one or find it on forums. Basically I was looking to book the 2 standard reward flights with Qatar airways that they issue on a particualr flight. I was then looking to book a third person after this on the same flight with a different booking, however this works on the assumption that the flexbile reward flight option comes up after the 2 standard reward seats have been taken on the 1st booking.

Therefore my question is once you book Qatar 2 standard reward seats, would you expect the flexible reward seat availabilty to show up (green tick option at double avios cocst) and if so after how long? (Im aware this is probably nuanced to availability on their algorithmn)

    Thank you

I would not assume any availability will ever come up. The workings of the Qatar algorithm are poorly understood and I don’t think there’s ever been any suggestion of guaranteed availability.

If you tell folks here your route/dates you may get some crowd-sourced anacdata.

Thanks memesweeper, with some empirical experimentation I worked out a method that worked to give some outline idea. I searched for 3 adult tickets, which only yielded search results that showed 3 flexbile tickets for the given flights, therefore for that flight 3 flexbile tickets were available, and it would not show the 2 standard tickets as I was booking for 3 people, so all travellers had to be in the same flexible class.

Following this I then searched again for 2 adult tickets for this flight, and it showed the 2 available standard tickets, which I duly put in my basket and chose my seats, hence taking them off the Qatar Airways site avaiability of the standard tickets for that flight for reward sale. I could then in a separate account seach again for this flight, and lo and behold it only showed 1 flexbile ticket for 1 adult, indicating that if I had booked the 2 standard tickets there were flexible tickets that instantaneously show up.

I hope that makes sense, but seems a full proof method of finding availability of flexbile flights in this instance.

    Most ingenious!

Also worthwhile keeping checking until departure in case a standard avios price seat comes up and you can switch to that.
