Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Process and time to resolve fraud on BA(E)C account

  • 7 posts

Late in the evening on 10th March I received an E-Mail from BA confirming my 25,000 Avios transfer to Nectar. Except I did not make that transfer. Interestingly, the transfer arrived in my own Nectar account 10-days later as prescribed. There has been no unauthorised access to my Nectar account and I have changed the password. I do not understand why a hacker with access to my BA account did not take the lot as others have experienced.

I called BA within minutes of receiving the E-Mail and after 45 minutes of holding, ended up talking to the Indian call centre. They confirmed someone had accessed my account and made the request. My account was locked and I was told someone would be in touch within 7-days. From HfP and FT, I realise this is an aspirational timeline.

But realistically, what can I expect from BA in terms of timescale? How long do they allow themselves to do something and how long do they usually take. I do not want to clog the phone lines while last Fridays disruption is still being resolved.

Is there any way of getting the Avios back from Nectar without losing some in the different direction transaction conversion rates? Would that be for BA or for Nectar to resolve.

I am satisfied that my account will eventually be open to me again in the future, but the absence of support, information or reassurance from BA is shocking.

Hopefully these threads will provide some pointers/reassurance regarding the process:

Not sure why your particular hacker decided to be nice(!) and transfer it to your actual Nectar account! Maybe they got distracted or were feeling charitable 🙂

Have you “locked” you Nectar Account for redemptions?

The option is under settings, you may need to update your App.

I have no idea why the hacker sent the Avios to my Nectar account. Very odd behaviour. The Nectar account is locked and still refuses to auto-convert to Avios despite the Nectar promise of it will.

    Thanks for the links.
