Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Other hotel schemes Preferred Hotels chain & ways to earn status

What is everybody’s favorite hotel chain?

It would also be interesting to know how many people have status with their preferred hotel chain, as well as the method for obtaining such status.

Whether that be from collecting points with a credit card to staying at their preferred hotel chain.

I feel this could be a real mixed bag and am interested to see hear people’s thoughts, maybe some recommendations too.

    Let’s get a discussion going…

To kick the discussion off I prefer the Hilton chain purely because of the benefits I receive through my status which I have obtained through my credit cards and their associated points.

Although, I maybe swayed in future as I find Marriott has lower redemption rates than Hilton for at least two trips I am planning on doing.

I do have status with Marriott also, even though I do find it hard to progress through the status tiers.

In my opinion there is not a major difference between platinum and titanium so I feel for the majority of travelers here platinum status would suffice.

I am considering paying for the Dis-loyalty loyalty scheme (there is a reduced rate of £93 joining fee) which covers Hoxton Hotels, 25Hours, Mama Shelter etc and wondered if anyone is a member and how they have found being a member.I dont travel frequently for work so this would be a leisure thing as opposed to buying the membership for work reasons.

Marriott has mainly dropped off my radar since they started dynamic pricing for award stays. I find Hilton a solid choice as it’s fairly easy to get gold status (as noted on the chat thread) and we like a hotel breakfast 🍳. IHG remains my favourite chain in terms of properties – I really like Kimpton and Indigo, though we’ll have to see how things pan out when we both lose diamond in a few weeks 😪

For places where chains are not well represented I like booking.com via the BA e-store. I’ve used them to book a few Parador and other stays for trios next year.
