I’ll be spending a lot of time in Dubai in the upcoming year so wondered whether it would be worth buying some points in the current points sale and buying redemption flights rather than cash.
But I’m finding it difficult to see flights where I will save money with redemptions even with the sale and even in Premium where redemptions are meant to be better value.
Peak redemption is 450,000 + £514 = £910 assuming 0.88p per point as in current sale.
For the same dates I am getting a premium return for £884
I’ve tried a few dates towards the end of this year and can’t find a flight where I save money in Premium. I can save around £100 in Economy using redemptions on most flights it seems…
Am I missing something?
It’s often harder to get value on VS than BA unless you have a 241/upgrade voucher to apply. You do have more flexibility with a points booking though.
Longer peak periods than BA also make it more difficult.
You might be better off paying cash and collecting points/TPs to use when you can find a good deal.
Simple answer is no hardly ever if you are flexible, there are lots of good business cash fares with 1 stop itinerary multiple times a year too.
Best way is to earn them via credit card spend etc and only buy if it really makes sense at the time for a redemption you want to book right then. not speculatively
