Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Points and Voucher v Cash – Help please

  • 60 posts

Hi, I am looking to book flights. I have looked at cash flights (Upper Class) which works out to £2420 per person x 2 = £4840. Alternatively, i have a voucher to use – looking at Virgin Points for the flight it will be 75,000 for 1 person plus £811 taxes each so x 2, plus the voucher.
So 75k points, £1622 taxes and voucher for 2 people. I assume i won’t get tier points or Virgin points for these flights so need to take that into account.
My question is…….all you gurus out there, is the points/voucher option worth it or should i pay the cash, save the voucher? I know it is ultimately down to me but was wondering if this option is good value for the points and voucher.
    Many thanks

That looks a decent redemption deal with the voucher. And you do get TPs on those bookings.

Will you get another chance to use the voucher before it expires? There are a few variables to take into account.

Possiby – well i can use them to go to US but with the new scheme i couldn’t afford the Virign Points i don’t think. These are outboud to Delhi and inbound via Mumbia. So quite long flights.

You are getting >4 pence value per point for this redemption.

Virgin will sell you points (currently) at 1.5p per point having just ended a points sale with a 70% bonus.

But even if you did not have a voucher, and had no points, 150,000 points would cost you £2,250. + £1,620 fees = £3,870.

So you could buy points at rip off prices and save almost £1,000.

This is a slam dunk redemption.

Book it before the price changes! (With the voucher)

And this does go to show that there are still good value redemptions out there even with the changes made.

Thanks for the help. I finally got the booking – 76.5k points, £1625 taxes etc and the companion voucher for 2 Upper Class return, seats booked etc. Very happy with the booking 🙂 Look forward to Sept 2025 and a journey through India 🙂
