Our flight in 3 weeks time to Barcelona in Club 1050-1400 has been cancelled today. The flight was booked using Avios
Our options are departing 0615 – this is too early for us to get to Heathrow or 1925 which gets us to Barcelona too late.
There is also a flight at 1350 but doesnt have any seats in Business – can we change to this? and what compensation if any are we entitled to?
Can we ask to be moved to the night before and claim hotel cost for Barcelona?
Would appreciate any advice before I call BA tomorrow.
If there are no seats in the chosen cabin (i.e. it’s fully booked), then no, you can’t change to that unless you want to accept a downgrade to economy where seats are available.
You can fly day earlier, but you won’t be able to claim for the extra night.
You didn’t say the exact date, but you could also considering flying from LCY (if seats available and there are flights).
If you ask to be put on the 13.50 flight in economy no compensation would be payable but you shoudl get the avios difference back as well as £13 in APD (difference between economy and club europe)
But where are you seeing that there is no avaiabilty in club?
If it’s an avios search then that’s not relavant as following a cancellation BA should offer you a club seat as long as they are selling cash fares.
Sometimes the rebooking bots don’t take that into account.
When you call ask to be put in the 13.50 flight and see what the agent can see. Don’t immediatly volunteer to move to economy
don’t assume the agent won’t make the same mistake as MMB makes – leaving the system set to only look for avios seats.
check this yourself by trying to make a booking in Business as a new customer and not as an amendment to your existing booking. Go to a different browser where you’re not signed in and try.
If the flight is showing no cash business seats at the moment then it is worth just holding fire for a couple of days. Their revenue system may “move the divider” if economy isn’t busy. But there are some capacity restrictions at the moment on CE loads. If you can tell us the date we can have a better guess
