I know that the Platinum card provides additional cover, but will it cover breakdown services if required? I rented from Budget in the US recently and they wanted to charge a (significant) premium for cover that included breakdown cover, I declined. If I had to use a breakdown service would the Platinum insurance cover?
My understanding is the car is covered anyway for a proper mechanical incident. The additional insurance covers things like changing a wheel in the event of a puncture, locking the keys in the car, running out of gas, putting the wrong fuel in, the sort of idiot things we laugh at but all do in stressful moments. I always decline it.
