Two short planks come to mind.

    should’ve read what I was quoting : )……can I play …it could’ve been the HSBC MasterCard defense?…worth a shot. Thankfully I’m no one’s criminal defence KC.

Don’t get the gob shutting, it’s a forum here, not a secretive nefarious cult.

Of course one can use a debit card but not sure how do you pay into an account which has sort code and account number from a debit card such as. Curve. FD here to pay into.

That Lufthansa debit card was a personal favourite of Rob’s !

Such a shame CornerCard decided to put an end to something great, although I’m not sure how the UK regulatory authorities viewed the card, being able to use what was essentially a credit card (since it could only be topped up via the Diners card) in places like bookmakers, casinos etc., the types of places that only accept debit cards for obvious enough reasons…
Maybe it’s a reason why the card is now just a memory and a boat that’s well and truly sailed

I wouldn’t worry about it. Most of the issuers have upped the number of merchants that generate cash advance fees / immediate interest and excluded from their rewards schemes, all but killing card spend as a way of gaming the system at a significant level. And if that hasn’t stopped most people, the KYC departments will nudge most of the remaining gamers. Still, must give thanks that the BA Prepaid Avios card is still about!

Earlier I used to pay my Halifax mortgage with Curve .Now the terms have changed .

We can only take debit card payments from customers named on the mortgage. We don’t accept credit cards or debit Mastercards (cards beginning with a 5).

Whats KYC? For a second I read KFC haha

BA Prepaid Avios had (maybe its changed) a measly limit, and terrible CS. The latter many other do to be fair. But the low limit was a limiting factor.

Know Your Customer. A check to make sure the money you are putting through comes from a legal, valid source, not from nefarious means.

Depositing £1000s in cash should trigger one of these for example.

    – we’re talking the one by Barclaycard? Did they charge you any fees?

Isn’t the perceived wisdom that once you approach the mortgage being paid off it’s better to leave it at £100 or so outstanding, at svr so no further product fees to pay, so the bank keeps your deeds secured for free? And in addition keeps a secured lending line open should you ever need or want to get another mortgage in the future….?

    That was my plan

In the 1990s maybe… for the 20 years are deeds are held electronically by Land Registry. And you can (and should) set up alerts to know if anyone has accessed them.

While HM Land Registry does hold electronic records/deeds, the paper deeds are often still critically important and may hold information that isn’t registered, so their continued importance should not be underestimated.

I’d agree that holding £1 open on your offest to leave what is effectively a large instant line of credit available at all times is not at all a bad idea for most people, though; even if you have zero prospect of ever needing or using it, you never quite know what life will throw at you in the future.

Interesting take on paying off a mortgage with a credit card for points! Holding £1 open on your offset makes sense – it’s like having a secret financial superhero ready for action. You never know what life might throw your way!

Is this still a thing? Guessing curve via a certain card with Avios in its name is long gone?
