Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Part of flight cancelled – checking my rights (Singapore Airlines)

  • 429 posts

    hi all,

just looking to check my understanding is correct…have the following flight booked for couple of months time, London to Singapore, Singapore to Clark (Ph) few days later, Manila to Singapore 2 weeks later, back to London, same day. This is all one one ticket with Singapore Airlines. They have just advised that the Singapore to Clark leg is cancelled (1530) and rerouted us same day at 0510. Obviously not happy with the ridiulously early flight time and cutting time from our schedule inSgp…there are only 2 flights a day. As an aside the 1530 flight is still showing for sale…

therefore am I correct to say that can ask them to move us to the 15.30 the following day as its more appropriate and they need to cover duty of care for extra night hotel, dinner breakfast and lunch since the overall ticket originates from London (and returns to London ultimately)? If so and im correct, does anyone have experience of claiming these expenses from Singapore Airlines?

I know im not entitled to delay compensation as this is more than 2 weeks away which is fine, more just checking on the expenses

    thanks in advance

You can ask but it would be a good will gesture and not because of EU/UK261 if that’s what you’re thinking.

The 2 day gap between landing in SIN and the onward flight means EU/UK261 provisions (including duty of care) simply don’t apply.

Isn’t it all counted as one journey if it’s on the same booking? I seem to remember someone posting here about a trip which began in the UK then continued in the US, and the second part of the trip counted for UK261.

It’s a Scoot operated flight and from my quick look on their website the flights are 0530 every day. I suspect if you’re still seeing the 15:30 on SQ website it’s just a lag getting the codeshares synced up

Unfortunately in this part of the world you have no rights like EU etc. Your insurance won’t cover it in advance. I’ve had plans disrupted a couple of times over the years and it is frustrating!

For max time in bed I’d recommend the Crowne Plaza or YOTEL at the Jewel. You can safely go to check in by 4 or even a little later.

The other option they may accommodate is going to another airport in the Philippines but even that might be difficult to get them to agree to without paying fees and fare difference

No, once you break your trip for more than 24hrs it isn’t a transit and isn’t protected all the way through

Even then the flights simply don’t exist to insist to get rebooked onto , Jetstar goes at 2am and having done a couple of those that’s a worse option than at least getting some sleep and a (v) early start !

Whilst it’s all the same trip and on the same booking that dosen’t mean the regulation applies to every element.

If the flight to Clark was an immediate connection from the LHR-SIN flight then the regulation would apply but not a flight a couple of days later,

ok thanks all for advice. moving to a different Ph airport is not a ideal option due to where we are headed but will look into the options further

its also irritating as the clark option was more expensive then going to manila, but as I said its where we need to head really so would be rather galling if they then try and charge more if we did head to manila in the end…and yes this particular sector is flown by scoot, not impressed thus far as feel we have been mis-sold. anyway thanks for help

You can see how we ended up with Eu261 here!

I used to have more luck writing to Singapore Airlines via their website rather than calling /chat so you could try that, especially since COVID the quality of their customer service staff has really gone down in my experiences

Thanks. Contacted them last night on chat after no one picking up the phone…long story short I spent an hour on chat where they eventually agreed to move me to the 0530 the following day despite insisting the 1530 was available to me (now doesn’t show on scoot website anymore) but she insisted on booking the 1530 which then got immediately bumped to the 0530….! Losing the will to live and waste my life on chat anymore
I just accepted that. People always say Singapore airline customer service is great? Certainly not my impression and all those who moan about BA customer service should see that these aren’t any better

Couldn’t be bothered to ask about claiming hotels etc just not worth the effort of speaking to them anymore

    Anyway thanks all for help

Just to ask SamG do you mean writing to them asking to cover hotel/meals etc or the rebooking? If the former I may try a letter. Thanks

They are simply not going to pay for a hotel.

You should – as already recommended and if you haven’t already done so – call them to ask about rebooking.

I’ve already stated above that I’ve got the rebooking done last night on chat… I was asking SamG for clarity on his comment, thanks tho….

Sorry I meant if you wanted to swap to Manila – I don’t think the chat would have done that for you but writing may have got a response

Agree with @BA Flyer IHG Stayer – they won’t pay your hotel so wouldn’t even waste your time there

Singapore Airlines experience is excellent once you’re actually on your way but their pre-sales service if you aren’t PPS isn’t great in my experience / opinion

thanks for clarifying what you meant. I got the impression I could have selected either clark or manila via chat but as i said I ideally want to go via clark so stuck with that. the whole chat took over an hour which was ridiculous but they dont answer the phone so didn’t see much alternative and got it sorted eventually

hope you are right re service improving once you are onboard…as said not impressed so far but will wait and see. thanks
