I have an expiring ambassador voucher and am thinking of one of these but not sure which would be best. It would be the base room at le grand, pending any upgrade. Anyone stayed at the Kimpton or compare it to the le grand?
Alternatively I could akip Paris and go to the Kimpton amsterdam or ic geneva. I mainly want the nicest of the hotels, and a hotel which is good with status upgrades would be a bonus.
I’m certain Rob has reviewed both those hotels so check the reviews section / search by hotel name.
Remember as well that the BOGOF can be used (subject to availability) any day of the week at Kimptons.
Not stayed in The Kimpton but did use the fabulous rooftop bar and had diner and drinks in the bar while staying at The IC.It was ok.
The IC were very accommodating about an upgrade and breakfast over Easter for a modest cash supplement arranged by email in advance even though the hotel was busy. Lounge access was not available to pay for but after Rob’s last review of the new arrangements I wasn’t too bothered as had been to the old lounge on a previous visit. I am Diamond Ambassador, (before free breakfasts).
What about Marseille for a change? or, the IC Amsterdam, just don’t pay for breakfast, go the the cafe/bakery across the street, save a fortune. The pool is nice.
We did a night in each last October for my 40th birthday and much preferred the ambience of the St Honore. The rooftop bar is ace, as is the indoor pool. Breakfast nice but overpriced. Le Grand is much grander but felt pretty staid, so depends if you prefer old school glamour or the more boutiquey feel of the Kimpton
For Paris, I normally prefer the Kimpton’s style and had a good stay previously. However, tempted to do the IC on BOGOF as my feeling is that there are more willing to upgrade and you actually get ambassador benefits (late check out, minor credits) which helps justify the ambassador fee a little bit more.
We stayed in the Kimpton and did not like it at all. The room was not well kept, the linen stained, furniture damaged, and we hated the large amount of merchandise in the room (BUY ME! BUY ME! BUY ME!).
The bar was soulless and the restaurant looked like a spot for instagrammers. And who wants american food in Paris anyway?
We haven’t been to the IC, but we like the indigo. So maybe take your voucher to some other city…
