Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Oneworld Ruby via Qatar and Accor for €298?

On the academic research on alternative BA status (apologies if this is obvious/been discussed before) – I’ve remembered that Accor and Qatar do status match, and Accor Gold gets you Qatar silver, which is Oneworld Ruby. If you buy both All Plus cards at €298, I think you get enough ‘free’ nights for Accor Gold? I suppose this allows means you’re then 30 nights on Accor away from Accor Platinum which will be matched to Qatar Gold / Oneworld Sapphire?

Accor Platinum will status match to QR Gold but be aware that there is a yearly quota and I’m not sure whether there are still free slots for matching to Gold (matching Accor Diamond to QR Plat is currently being rejected due to full quota). Also, you will need to take a flight on QR after your Accor account is linked for the status match to activate (you don’t have this issue if you are matching from QR to Accor).

There is a debate on FlyerTalk at the moment as to when the status match quota resets – some say it is January but others say it resets in September.

Honestly, if you’re aiming for Accor Plat then I think a better route to this is buying a subscription to Accor Signature Absolute – where you get 5,000 reward points and 1000 status points every month. By December you’ll only be 2000 status points from the 14,000 total required for Platinum – which equates to €800 spend. You’ll attain Silver by Feb and Gold by July.

The Brazilian Real has collapsed in the last few months so you’re currently getting a really good deal on the reward points – R560 is £73/€88, but each month you get €100 worth of Accor reward points (and Accor points are a proxy for fixed cash redemptions so you don’t have to worry about devaluations).

The big advantage of Signature is that you’re earning valuable reward points while also earning status points, whereas with the Voyageur option you just pay for the status nights and then you’d still need to put in 30 nights to reach Platinum.
