Mrs K opened her BAPP mid August last year and cancelled 11 days ago. She’s had her final bill through in the post but there is no partial yearly fee refund as expected.
Has anyone else had this as it’s usually showing after a few days?

It’s my understanding refunds aren’t given for cancellations but only for downgrades… or so that’s what I was told over the phone by an AmEx representative several years ago.

According to a review of the BAPP card in this HfP article…

You will receive a pro-rata refund of your annual fee if you cancel. American Express is the only UK card issuer to offer this.
I cancelled a few months and got pro rata refund. Give them a kick 👍🏻
+1 that a kick is sometimes needed. If the account is closed they can send you a cheque, which is nostalgic 😆.
It may just be the statement date missed the pro rata refund posting. They will always pro rata refund, you may not see it for a month though if you’re waiting for the paper statement. If you’re using online access then you will see it within a few days of cancelling and can contact them on chat to have the refund arranged.

This is what usually happens but it’s not appeared in the app this time as a negative balance. It could be it just missed the end of month statement as it was cancelled just after the Avios hit the BA account. We’ll do a live chat and see what’s up. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t an unpleasant new rule that Amex was enforcing!
