    I’m platinum and yesterday we checked into the Ritz Carlton Sarasota for the night. No upgrades available which is fine as they’re not guaranteed. Today when I requested a late checkout (supposedly guaranteed) it was refused because the hotel is busy. Just wondering if Marriott offer compensation in such cases as IHG do (10k points from memory). Any advice welcome

    Not for elite late check out. It is a guarantee, but no T&C detail on compensation when that guarantee is not honoured. I nearly had an incident at the Aloft Madrid last summer where I had booked a terrace room for the sole purpose of having a sunny terrace till my evening flight. They initially claimed no late check out entitlement, then no availability for me to keep my room. I messaged the front desk in-app to say I’d checked their website and 3 other terrace rooms were available to purchase that night so suggested any early arrivers were allocated to another room that wasn’t mine, and I’d be remaining in my room till 16.00 and any further issues to liaise with the Bonvoy HQ. They immediately replied to say they’d been mistaken and of course I could remain in my room till 16.00. Try checking the website to see if they could easily assign other guests to other available rooms. But so what if someone has to wait till 17.00 for their room; their problem, not yours. I’ve waited till 17.30 for my room to be ready at Marriott County Hall in the past on a Sunday when the Saturday night guests were mostly elites.

    Thanks Blair. Seems like the only room free is a 4k suite so might just have to suck it up this time and head to the beach club instead

    The late checkout is not guaranteed at resort hotels, and I’m guessing they’d say the Ritz Carlton Sarasota is a resort hotel (see here “Regardless of Elite Status, Late Check-Out is based upon availability and not guaranteed at Design Hotels™, Resort Hotels, and Convention Hotels”).
