I am aware that IHG are changing their elite status system and rules this year. However, over the last year I have once again achieved Spire Elite status and this is showing in my online profile. In previous years, I have benefitted from the offer of 25k IHG reward points for achieving Spire elite status. No offer on my profile so far this year. I am aware that IHG have rolled over elite status until February 2023 but it seems strange for the benefit to be declined for those who have earned it prior to the reward system changes. How are others in this situation?
Where are you looking?
You need to be on the website rather than the app.
Hi ChrisC thanks for the reply. I am looking at the website on a PC and at the left hand side when I scroll down to the “Spire Elite” box I can see 1 award available for an upgrade to 5 star with Hertz. This has been here for a year. My wifes IHG profile is showing the same thing. Have you or anyone else had the 25k points offer since requalifying this year? My status is still showing as “old style” Spire Elite and has not yet changed to “new style” Diamond Elite.
That’s exactly where it should be showing.
The new tiers aren’t live yet so that’s why they aren’t showing.
I’d zap them an email about / call it.
Last year a few of us were denied it on the grounds that we’d previously received “goodwill” points but challenged successfully. I wonder if they will try to say that extending status was also a goodwill gesture and therefore won’t generate the 25k points?
Those who got rolled over won’t get it.
However, as a data point, Rhys was recently comped Spire in advance of some reviews we are doing and that did trigger the 25k.
If you had reached spire from credit card spend last year, should the 25k points for retaining spire be there by now?

Should be, but people don’t seem to have had them.
Having qualified on points as Spire again, I’ve sent four emails and the representatives just avoid answering the question when they respond. Instead they confirm I’m Spire from requalifying (thank you for confirming what I already know) or tell me I haven’t reached enough nights or points this year! Tried calling today and got passed around and around. Eventually spoke to someone who has made ‘a case file’ as I should have received the points. Whether they will turn up in my account I’m unsure.
Well I’m pleased to confirm an email has just arrived:
The 25,000 points you requested as part of your IHG® Rewards Spire Elite benefits have been added to your account.
A lot of effort but the benefit is still available!

Which email did you use to contact them?
Any recent experiences? I achieved my 2022 elite qualifying points for Spire yesterday but I’ve not yet got a new Choice Benefit available.

I hit the points on Sunday 27th. End date for spire was 2022 and no 25k points available on app or website. I emailed customer services last night and this morning got a reply to say it was sorted. Checked website and date extended to Dec 2023 and I was able to choose the 25k points.
Very good, same here. Emailed ihgrewardsclub@ihg.com yesterday afternoon and it’s already sorted.
Got mine yesterday.
I emailed the ambassador team about a missing stay so asked about it as part of that conversation – I needed the points from that stay to take me over the 55k
Couple of hours later the benefit approved in my account (web version) and I’ve just redeemed it.
I am sure that this must have been asked countless times, but either I am looking in the wrong places, and/or the info has now been removed from the IHG website.
Asking on behalf of my partner, who sometomes hopes that I am the fount of all knowledge about her points earning.
She has a black, premium rate IHG card from Creation, and most of her points come from that.
She had Spire status during 2021, and continued to have it this year until it got changed to Diamond.
She got 25 000 bonus points in March 2021 as a result of earning 55 000 points during the previous earning year, whenever that was.Following that, during the period from 23 April 2021 to 31 Dec 2021 she earned another 56 000+ points from credit card and stays.
She did not receive any bonus points in March 2022, and when this was taken up with IHG, the response was that she had received bonus points in March 2021 and that she had only earned 4000+ points in 2022.
Could some kind person please advise the dates between which one had to earn the 55 000 points (that is, if it was still 55 000 points) to qualify for Spire in 2022? And this qualify for the 25 000 point bonus in 2022?
Very many thanks.

Pretty sure it was calendar year. So the bonus in Mar 2021 likely will have been from Jan21-Mar21. Therefore later spend in 2021 after that didn’t count towards 2022.

I thought it was calendar year too, but surely that means 1 Jan – 31 Dec?
So points credited in March 2021 would have to be from 1 Jan 2020 – 31 Dec 2020.
No way is Jan21-Mar21 a calendar year. Anyway, if points are credited during March, there is no way that all point earned up to 31 March are included. Surely the earning period is not just 2½ months?
@RussellH, did your wife get 25k “bonus” points from IHG last year (these were supposed to be a “goodwill” gesture to compensate people for not being able to maintain status, but most people seemed to get them)? Many readers (including me), who got these, were then denied the 25k for subsequently re-qualifying for Spire status. I and others successfully argued that the bonus 25k could not be classed as a goodwill gesture if IHG were then going to deny them the following year. If this is the case your wife needs to gently persist with their customer services and she may well get them.

Your description does seem to be what she got – she has no evidence, though, as to the reason for the 25 000 she got last year, and AIUI, IHG have not mentioned “goodwill” either.
Are you able to confirm that getting 56 000+ points means that she would, under normal circumstances, have qualified for renewal of her Spire status? If so, she is prepared to keep on at them!
Thanks for your help.
As I recall, I earned over 55k points during the 2021 calendar year, and retained Spire. This would be reflected in your partner’s account, and this is why she should be asking for the 25k points. Any points earned in 2022 shouldn’t come into it at this stage, as presumably these would only count towards this year’s qualification. IHG can’t really argue that any extra points they awarded part way through the card year are a reward for qualifying for status.
I’m wondering if whoever she spoke to got mixed up about earning the free night certificate, which aligns to the card year, and not the calendar year?
Also – I think this benefit is being withdrawn under the new IHG One system so could it be to do with that? I think someone posted in the article Rob did last week that they had missed out on qualifying due to the date the changes came into force.

I realise that. But the points counter would have started on 1st Jan 2021. So if you earned 55k points by March 2021 you’d have got the 25K bonus at that point. If you did it by June 2021 you’d get the bonus then. You don’t get another bonus for any further 2021 spend after that.
Then the counter resets 1st Jan 2022 so you had until the new scheme started to hit 55K to renew Spire/Diamond.
Sounds like you’ve “only” had 4K spend in 2022 to date.- This reply was modified 55 years, 4 months ago by .

That is exactly what I thought ought to be the case, thanks.
We have gone through her points and she earned over 63 000 between April and December last year.
She is on the phone to IHG as I write…
Not good!
Phone call to IHG UK (01950 499004) got through to someone who said that she could not help. She recommended phoning 001 844 774 7300 which is supposed to be the dedicated Spire Elite Helpline.
She talked to someone who, she thinks, seemed to understand, but then said he had to confirm with someone else. Put on hold, then cut off.No way is Jan21-Mar21 a calendar year. We do not know how many points she got during 2020-2021, as most of that info is no loger available on the iHG website. But I would assume that it would take the best part of a year to amass 55 000 points. No way would it have happened in just a couple of months.
I thought that IHG awarded points following the completion of the calendar year – points awarded in March 2021 depending on the total points earned throughout 2020, and points earned this year depending on the total points earned throughout 2021, awarded following renewal of status?
That is what others seem to be saying.
