Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards New York on points

  • 12 posts

Hi I looking to book 6 nights on points in October. The IHG options are many in New York. I am currently Diamond elite (ambassador) so want to make the of this status before I loose it in 2023. I have looked at the Intercon Times square but the reviews are so so. Any advise is much appreciated

I stayed at the Kimpton Eventi in January and had a good stay.

There is another IC – thee Barclay so that may be an option. IIRC Rob reviewed it a couple of years ago.

The new Voco Times Square looks ok and the points rates seem lower than others nearby.

Bear in mind that New York is so expensive right now that the value of your hotel redemption will pale into insignificance by comparison.

A few data points from my visit in December: the cheapest bottle of wine I saw on a restaurant menu was $55 plus tips; beer in my hotel was $10 plus tips for the bartender to flip open a 13oz can of mediocrity (so about £15 per pint); and our most expensive meal topped $1,000 for four including wine and tips.

Unless you really, really want to visit NY – and there is nowhere like it on earth – you may find better value elsewhere.

I don’t drink in hotel bars. For that $10 ish yiu could have got a six pack / bottles of reasonable beer from a corner deli, whole foods, trader joes or even CVS!

CVS fan! Open all hours and good selecttion of inexpensive booze to drink in your room. They also sell Ghiradelli chocolate in bags.

Whole Foods – much bigger and largely baffling range, same with TJ, but if you’re out in the sticks you won’t find either.
