Looks like nectar have created a new security measure to reduce account fraud risk. Opened the app to find a spending lock message. In essence you can turn off the ability to spend nectar points on the app. Should stop someone being able to easily clone your nectar card and drain your account. Helpful for those of us building nectar balances ahead of a transfer bonus
Not on mine yet and app seems up to date.
Showed up on mine today.
Locked.
You can unlock while in shop.. and lock back again.
Where is the option supposed to appear?
Oh that’s really useful! Cheers OP.
Updated app, got a popup prompting for it.
Toggle is on the main/home screen of the app, under “Your Nectar points” section.
Where is the option supposed to appear?
As above, but also under account > settings > lock or unlock spending
Doesn’t say anything about conversion to Avios – I assume the auto conversion wouldn’t be stopped?
“Lock spending – you can’t spend in store or online with any of our partners except for British Airways”
It appeared on my Android version this morning v 11.4.1
Where is the option supposed to appear?
As above, but also under account > settings > lock or unlock spending
Cheers
Not on mine yet then
Just popped up when opened app today. Thanks.
I switched the lock on yesterday. My Nectar auto conversion didn’t happen and when I try to convert the points manually I’m told that something is wrong and I should contact Nectar. Sigh.
Mine has appeared, but just doesn’t work. Click the “lock or unlock spending” and nothing happens. It was previously locked by Nectar due to a large balance but they never told me, had to contact to unlock. Will contact again 🤬
about time – My card was cloned and ~£245 worth of points was spent. Nectar to their credit sort it out super fast and refunded the full amount…
I just noticed that my auto-conversion hasn’t converted for several weeeks with points stacking up in my Nectar account. So I tried to convert the balance manually but I did it the wrong way Avios -> Nectar!! Maybe careless on my part, but there was no other option.
Then I remembered the Nectar spending lock. After I unlocked it, the BA website allowed me to change the direction of conversion from Nectar -> Avios. Seems like a bug or they’ve changed how it works as the nectar website does say:
If you choose to lock your spending it will not stop you from converting your Nectar points to Avios. This includes if you have set your Nectar points to convert to Avios automatically.
Just a warning in case anyone falls for the same mistake. At least, it was only a few hundred Avios lost.
