just received email from Nectar saying we now have to call them everytime we wish to redeem points. Even using at sainsburys requires a call 24 hours in advance !!
Security is one thing but this is ridiculous.
Here is what they say :
You now need to give us a call before spending your Nectar points. This helps us confirm that any transactions made with your points are genuine.
You can still collect points as normal.
What happens next?
When you want to spend points, give us a call on 0345 0130 385
We’ll ask you some security questions
We’ll enable points to be spent on your account. If spending in a Sainsbury’s store, please give at least 24hrs notice
lol, they are lurching from one extreme to another.
Are you sure it’s actually from Nectar? What is you actual email address that sent not what description is displayed?
Sounds like a scam to me and if this was a genuine thing then other people would have reported getting it as well.
That doesn’t seem to be a real Nectar number… I’d change your passwords and be extra cautious if I were you!
The email came from
nectaronline@emails.nectar.com
I did think a little suspicious.
And since no one else seems to have heard this I agree it is likely fraudulant.
Redeemed 5000 from my account in Sainsbury’s yesterday afternoon, not received any emails so far.
Had 5he same email – it refers to the fact tha5 8 have a lot of Nectar points, so my assumption was 5ha5 5hey are applying the extra security selectively. I can’t currently convert Nectar to Avios and ass7me this is linked to the new security feature.
It also says
Once we’ve released your points balance, you have the option to pause spending again as an additional security measure on your remaining balance. To do this, please call us on 0345 0130 385.
I’m taking this to mean that once I’ve called them to access my points, they will stay accessible unless I call them again to re lock them….
ill call them….
the email i received is definately in their usual colours and font and has all the usual words and menus etc

I would err on the side of caution, and not call the number on the email, but find the number online yourself, and have them verify this is a new security measure.
Whilst that is the email I received an email from Nectar yesterday, I think the ‘from’ email can be spoofed.

You’re right – the ‘from’ address is trivial to spoof
Would they even have enough staff to speak to everyone who intended to redeem points?!
I think this is a spam. Do not call it! I looked up that 0345 number on whocalledme and it returned this:
This number is a non-geographic number operated by TalkTalk Communications Limited, meaning it’s not associated with a specific geographical location
If you search for “contact Nectar” you get this:
use Nectar helpline live chat at nectar.com or phone 0344 811 0811.
When I looked up that number also on whocalledme it returned this:
This number, primarily associated with Sainsburys Nectar Card helpline , is a non-geographic number operated by Vodafone Ltd (C&W), meaning it’s not associated with a specific geographical location
I received the email too, So I spoke with CS on X and they confirmed:
“Due to you having a high point balance we’re trying out a new method to keep your account secure. When you want to redeem please call the number provided so we can lift the block. Once you have redeemed your points call us back and we can re apply it. Chris”
Bit of a pain to go through to use and then re-lock your account when your account should be secure enough in the first place.
I do have a highish balance though(compared to your average Hectar collector 😊) so would rather this than my points dissapear!
