I’m a big fan of SAS Eurobonus as they allow family pooling of miles – I think they’re the only *A carrier who does this for UK customers without status.
Anyway, had a flight booked with points (Dubai & back in J, 110k points & c. £300). Found a better connection for the outbound, called up to see if I could change, got straight through, total amendment fee was EUR15 – less an EUR14.80 refund on taxes. So I now get an extra 3 hrs in bed for a whole 20 euro cents.
That works for me.
Aegean allows anyone to join a pooling account as long as they have credited at least one flight, no need to have status, no need be in a family or pretend to live at the same address (as is the case with BA). The downside is that it may cost miles to leave the joint account (as yet unpublished in the T&Cs)
Tony what route did you fly and on which airline?
It’s out on Lufthansa, back on Turkish.
Had originally picked Swiss for the outbound by the departure time was grim.
The beauty of Eurobonus – unlike Aegean – is that you don’t even have to set foot on an SAS plane (indeed I think the last time I flew on SAS was on an MD80 in the 1990’s…) And actually I see you don’t have to claim to be a family group or live together, either. https://www.flysas.com/en/eurobonus/point-sharing/#/point-sharing
Yeah fair enough, I wouldn’t choose Aegean if I were starting from scratch today, but it’s relatively easy to retain gold if you already have it and can go to/via Greece once a year, plus I (well, we) have 200k A3 miles and not sure what to spend them on.
You don’t need to set foot on an A3 plane either, but they’ve just made it a lot more difficult to retain gold without doing so.
I wonder if your “tax” refund was just due to the pound (or maybe US dollar) strengthening against the euro. When the GBP dropped in the past A3 wanted me to pay more “tax” to make a change, even though the actual taxes in euros hadn’t changed.
No, I had a cumbersome double connection on the way out and was able to swap to just a single one, so that’s what brought the tax down. I was just very impressed at the EUR15 fee for the amendment, given I think they charge £50 if you have a complex itinerary that needs to be booked on the phone.
