I have a non-refundable Melia booking and they’ve told me somebody can’t turn up with another name. I guess even with my name and booking reference, a friend arriving under a different name is under significant risk of being turned away?
Most hotels check ID proof during check in, especially at tourist spots. Unless your friend is pay the spot rate if rejected, it’s not worth the risk.
Have you tried to change the name on the reservation? The booking may be non-refundable but they may still allow to change the name on the booking.
What country is the booking in?
Your chance of getting away with it is going to be totally different in the UK and in eg Spain, due to the local rules around showing ID at checkin

Yes I called. No flexibility at all so I think I’ve simply lost the booking.
