Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Other hotel schemes Melia 20% off voucher – how does it work?

Thanks. Yeah, I’ve actually got the Presidential Suite booked (!) for the 4 of us as it was same price as 2 decent rooms. It’s refundable but not sure how to figure out if the new price on rebooking will be the same, or at least not so high as to negate the benefits, as obviously there’s only one of those suites and I suspect there’s only one time in the whole year that Chiang Mai is so crazy busy.

This must be the most first world problem ever. I feel like I’ve become one of those people whose flight is ruined if they haven’t loaded a second bottle of Krug or whatever !

Have used this several times and not experienced any blackout dates. I’ve also stacked it with the 5% on the app, and the Black Friday deals.

I’ve used it during the Paris Olympics, French Open, New York UNGA & US Open (times where there may be blackouts) and not had any problem.

If you plan on using it more than 3 times a year, get your supp card holder to also sign up and get 3 more 20% codes.

Genuinely the most underrated benefit of the Plat card.

@RV Yes, it goes back to your account when you cancel. Tried it yesterday!

Just following up on this. The voucher t&c’s say the voucher is not given back to you in these circumstances, though of course it is great news if they do give it back in practice.

(can’t link to the terms as it generates a unique URL for me when logged in, but it says:)

“Discount neither cumulative, nor compatible with other promotions, or with other discount vouchers.
You have a code to use independently in 3 different reservations.
Discounts cannot be combined with each other.
The voucher will only apply to reservations made with cash or points + cash, not to reservations confirmed with points only.
The voucher is personal and non-transferable.
Should the reservation be cancelled, the voucher applied will not be refunded.
You must be logged in to your account to benefit from the discount.
You can use your code by booking on melia.com, the App or through our Contact Centre.
Enter your code, available in the My promotions section, in the “discount code – promotional code” box when you search for your hotel or destination on the web and the app. If you make your reservation through the Contact Centre, you will have to provide the code to the reservations agent.
The voucher is redeemable only for the duration of your MeliáRewards loyalty tier. Should the level be maintained, 3 new uses will be assigned, with those not used in the previous period of validity expiring.”

In case useful, I can say the voucher was available as soon as I got upgraded to gold.

I’m having problems paying for a Melia hotel on the app with my Anex card. I get an error message; the Melia call center say my Amex is blocked.
Amex chat say there are no blocks on my card nor any declined payments.
    Any ideas please?

I had the same a year or so ago, when booking gran melia seville. The same card then went through with no issues two days later…

In the end I linked the amex to PayPal then used PayPal for Melia.

Doubtful you will, as with other hotel schemes points are not earned on tour operators bookings. You might be able to add your membership details for any restaurant spend, but that depends on the hotel.

    2. Members will not earn Points in the following cases:

    – For Stays paid for in full by redeeming Points.

For Stays that are partially paid by redeeming Points, Members will earn Points only for the proportional part of the price that has been paid in cash.

    – For Stays enjoyed or booked prior to registration in the Programme.

    – For Stays booked directly in the hotel and not on Meliá’s direct sales channels (melia.com, Meliá APP and Meliá Contact Centre).

    – For Stays that Members book with OTAs (Online Travel Agencies), Tour Operators, Groups, Voucher Systems, Air Crews and programmes not operated by Meliá Hotels International

Genuinely the most underrated benefit of the Plat card.

Definitely a very valuable and under-rated benefit. I have just returned from a stay at a Melia property in Spain; the savings from the voucher easily covered half of my annual fee.

Hi all, just checking if anyone has had any luck using this with a points booking or a point plus money booking? Wondering if it will stack with the current points bonus for purchasing points. Thanks

It stacks. This is what I meant on the other thread when I said that it’s a better deal for higher room categories to use points plus cash bookings.

It stacks with points plus cash bookings and the points bookings which are under dynamic pricing / according to the cash rate. It does not stack with the set / fixed points rates, although these are rarely available or any cheaper than dynamic rates these days.

But the main thing is that the voucher isn’t used up when you use it to search! So simply search with and without the voucher to check.

Awesome, thanks meta and Niall, appreciate your responses!

@occasionalranter, depending on the rate and length of stay, you could recoup your entire plat card fee in one stay!

Lets us know how your stay goes!

Visiting chiang mai next year and the waterslides at Shangri la tilting odds in its favour at the moment.

Meliá Chiang Mai was good in every way, great in some. Highlights were helpful staff, great location of hotel, comfort of beds, and quality of food and drink during evening canapés in the Level, ie their clubhouse. Breakfast in main dining area was good but not exceptional. Pool not huge but very few people actually swimming so it was fine.

Only off note was quality of fitting and furnishings in presidential suite. Door frames split, small nail heads protruding in floor, doors that wouldn’t stay shut. I complained politely but thoroughly about this to a member of staff at the time and they were a bit shocked I think that they had just let it slide up to that point.

I would definitely stay there again in preference to anywhere further from the sweet spot location between the old city, the night markets and the river.

Do the Melia vouchers renew every membership year, or are they a one off benefit for having status?
