Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
Does anybody else on this forum use the Matrix Airfare Search (https://matrix.itasoftware.com/search) to look for flights? If so, what’s your impression of the pros and cons of the site, and do you know any useful hacks?
I find it useful to mix and match long journeys which include a minimum of one stop, e.g. I booked a family holiday to South Dakota working out the cost of the various legs involved, and then booked separately with the relevant airlines. It’s not useful however if I’m trying to include airmiles spend etc. Also, I noticed that on short-haul flights, I often manage to get a cheaper fare on the airway site than advertised on the Matrix site.
I just use Google Flights to search airfares and a mixture of Google, FlightsFrom, and FlightConnections to figure out how to get from A to B.
Occasionally I use ITA Matrix because it has a wider area of search possible if I am struggling to find an airport near where I want to be. That said, Google found me Boston Manchester for a trip around New England next fall autumn.
