Has anyone been to Marrakech during Ramadan? How was it?
I booked a short break without realising it’s at the end of Ramadan. My toddler and pregnant wife will need to eat during the day so hoping at least some cafes/restaurants will be open. We are staying in the Medina.
We went about ten years ago and travelled all over Morocco during Ramadan. We found at least one open restaurant for lunch everywhere we went, even the smallest of places. They’d normally only have a very limited offering, but it was entirely sufficient, although I haven’t eaten tajine since, because there’s only so many times you can have it!
I’d imagine it should be even easier to get by now!
I have been there during Ramadan maybe 3-4 years ago and you could not really tell. Locals will obviously not eat but there is plenty of open places, not as if the country shuts down completely. You will see that at sundown particularly the city is as vibrant as always.
Remember to be respectful however. I wouldn’t drink alcohol these days and not snack walking on the street in front of everyone.
