    Hi guys,

I’ve been thinking about going to maldives this month but a bit confused whether we should due to it being the rainy season. Can anyone offer any advice? I would probably book either the Hilton Amingiri or the Conrad on points. I have done some research and see many people say even in the rainy season the rain usually doesn’t last long and they had a great time. However I just find that this website is always such a good source of knowledge in these kind of decisions so I just wanted to ask on here before making any decisions.

Alternatively I could goto the seychelles instead. And in some ways it seems it’s basically a cheaper maldives with more to do. However I also feel with points lowering in value more and more and possible even an upcoming recession, who knows when I’ll have another chance anytime soon.

Just very confused and would appreciate any view points from anywhere who has either been recently or in the past in the monsoon season.
    Thanks

We go once a year and were there the week before last. It rained solidly for 48 hours and was then stunning for 4 days straight. That was rather more dramatic than our experiences in the past when we`d become used to bursts of heavy rain which would quickly pass.

If you/your partner/family are going to become glum if it rains do not go now – wait until November. If you take the view that your surroundings will be beautiful anyway and theres a great spa to enjoy youll have a lovely time. The Conrad is a cracking redemption in my view, even though the 380,000 deals have gone.

I’ve been this time of year and it’s much better value because people are scared of the rain. SCUBA diving is much better in the Seychelles if that’s your thing, and house reefs for snorkelling can be amazing and as close to SCUBA as you’ll get without a tank on your back.

It’s the tropics so expect a couple of hours of rain intermittently every day – a good time for a swim! You can get very unlucky and see prolonged periods of rain but you would really be unlucky.

Some data here shows how most months have very similar rainfall, including popular periods for UK visitors.

Both are on my list as is Bora Bora, which I think is good to visit at this time of year.

The problem with bora bora the last time I looked was how difficult it was to get there from the UK.

Good point. Although you can do it via OneWorld with a single stop in LA.

Thanks, will research that. As for the Maldives I’ve narrowed it down to Hilton amingiri, Conrad, W and JW Marriott. It’s so hard to pick especially as there are so many contradictory reviews online. Conrad seems the best option however the rooms in the base villas are quite dated. Whereas Hilton Amingiri has amazing rooms but won’t have dense vegetation due to being so new. Sadly it seems I’m going to have to compromise, the Marriott options won’t have free breakfast and once I add up half board and transfers are much more expensive than Hilton. Sadly the WA doesn’t have any availability. The st regis isn’t taking bookings and that leaves the ritz but I can’t find anybody info online of the cost of Half board and breakfast
