Any views on the various Hiltons in Malaga?
Your best option for Malaga is one of the Melias, I would suggest. Locally, they seem to be pretty good in Spain. Haven’t tried the Hiltons though.

Thanks. Have an almost unlimited stash of Hilton points though, plus Diamond. I’ll look at Melias, but it’s hard to compete against free.
Haven’t stayed at either but would be interested to know this for myself. The location of the Hampton is a bit odd, nothing really around there, unless you’re going to a match at the stadium. A Staybridge Suites has just opened next door as well. It’s a 20-30 mins walk into the centre so not too bad. The SLH is central and does look nice. The HGI location makes it an airport hotel really, but at least there are regular buses that whizz along Av. de Velasquez into the centre
I fancy the Curio just above Fuengirola which looks a bit like a Bond villain lair! Not the best location but it would be a good base to explore the wider area, and the property itself looks quite intriguing.
Thanks @tootsci, @NorthernLass. Agree with all the comments. Travelling solo this time and very light, so may take one for the team and sample two or three. SLH I’m sure likely to be the best (though also tempted by the one above Fuengirola, location aside) but you can never tell. Choice could be highly season dependent (I’m off this weekend so outdoor pools not attractive..).
Just need to decide and cancel my overlapping bookings! Though will wait to see what upgrades I get…
@Swiss-Jim Enjoy! I love Malaga and get my regular fix of winter sun there. I have a favourite AirBnB I return to, but interested to hear your thoughts on the Hiltons when you’re back. Looking at the current forecast you should have dodged the worst of the recent rainy weather they’ve been having 🤞🏻
I stayed in the Curio in Fuengirola maybe 18 months ago – thoroughly recommend. Great pool, bar and rooftop bar, also great restaurant for breakfast. Downside is it’s a trick from town / beach – you’ll be Uber-ing it 15 mins to get to town and back. But a small downside.
Anyone tried the Nobu Hotel in Marbella, bookable via SLH and a great ‘pence per point’ value?
I love Malaga too! I’m off there for my birthday in May with family, so we’ve booked a 3 bedroom apartment at Los Amigos Beach Club near Mijas because it’s got tons of activities for kids but also a quiet, adults section (for me, lol).
Got the Curio pegged for next time it’s just OH and me, though I’m also tempted by the Iberostar Puente Romano (?).

Was tempted – maybe next time (wanted to be closer to Malaga centre this trip). I’d be very interested in someone’s perspective.

Choices, choices. Never tried Iberostar – tempted by these. Anyone have views?

Thanks @Kirkie. Decided this is for later in the year – not for now when weather not yet warm enough and (I think) outdoor pool still closed. But agree it looks good (location aside).
Ok. So, trip all but done. My advice is to stay at none of them. Rare to have a trip where I’m unimpressed with every hotel I’ve stayed at – in fact, I think this is a first. For those caring types out there, don’t worry, I’m fine…
First night, Hampton Malaga. Ideal if you’re in Malaga to watch Malaga FC play – about a minute walk. But nothing else going on, and hotel very average. There’s a Staybridge Suites next door. To be honest even if I was there to watch the football I’d give that a go over Hampton – I doubt it could be worse.
En route from airport, passed Garden Inn. Airport hotel. On busy main road. Looked extremely unappealing.
Second night, Palacio Soleico (SLH). Location great. Room poor – no Diamond upgrade as full (fine..) but allocated room had no window, just skylight. Diamond breakfast on roof terrace in rain (under awning) away from paying guests. Whilst delicious it was very small – left hungry. Felt like I was treated like a leper (points redemption).
Third night, Higueron (Curio) – 35 minutes by train from Malaga (but direct train connection to Airport). In the middle of nowhere, up a very steep hill. Amazing sea views are, er…, rubbish. Good sports facilities. But nothing at all to do other than sit on beach (which at this time of year not really an option). Better to be in Malaga itself.
So if forced to choose, Palacio Soleico wins. But it’s third last, not first.
Oh dear! Hopefully the trip itself made up for the hotel experiences. Thanks for the warnings.
It does sound as though nobody (guests or management) is very happy with the SLH partnership (there was a quite entertaining review of someone who had stayed in a London property and not had the best experience).
I think I’d still try the Curio if we had a car, but otherwise aiming for Iberostar, I think!
