I’ve booked outbound MAD-EZE leaving 22 October 2025, want to do two nights in MAD before as a mini break so any must dos for a day?

Then looking at return flight from GIG 31 oct or 01 Nov can’t stay any later due to school term. So gives us around 9/10 days is it too ambitious to do BA, Iguazu and Rio in that time? Was thinking of a 3 night even split or should vary it? Any other advice gratefully received.

Yes it’s easily doable. You fly from EZE to Igauazu (Argentinian side), stay there and then taxi across to Brazillan side and then fly to GIG.

3 nights BA, 2 nights IF and 3 nights in Rio will allow you to see most everything. If you scroll through the destination forum there are threads on what to see and where to go.

@annabh Wife and I are flying MAD to EZE on the 22nd March as well. You on 23.59PM flight by any chance?

No we’re on 22 Oct on 1230 flights I avoid overnight ones as much as possible even in business I don’t sleep much. Plus I’ve taken the hit of flying PE whereas hubby and son are in business as only two seats available on Iberia. We’re flying to LHR so at least I can get a business seat home to try and get some sleep.

I’d suggest the Golden Triangle of Art, though start with a walk around Atocha station too. If you are a teacher you may get free access to the museums, if I remember correctly, to the three museums (Prado, Reina Sofia, and Thyssen-Bornemisza.

A walk around the Retiro Park, then take the Metro to the Plaza Mayor and a short walk to Palacio Real de Madrid. If you still have time, or are starting early in the day, take the Teleforico across to Casa del Campo for a morning walk in the large park to the West of Madrid, good views on the return certainly.

It is of course technically possible to do all three places in ten days but while two nights might be enough at the falls, you will have incredibly little time in BsAs or Rio and be giving up a lot of holiday time to travelling.

What would you suggest as the ideal amount of time to spend at these destinations? I’m considering booking the same trip.

I gather than Brazilian law obliges BA to offer very low taxes and charges from Rio to London on the direct service, but in light of the Avios used (off peak) IB via Madrid might still represent much better value (and a better on board experience these days)?

@Londonsteve – it’s difficult to answer as it depends what you like doing and how you like to go about it. I think that four nights/three full days feels like quite a good balance. It’s a huge city and there are lots of very different areas to visit plus excellent museums if they interest you. There’s nothing very old to see – it’s mostly from our Victorian era, so a time when Argentina was one of the richest countries in the world and they set about building a city on the lines of Paris. It’s a great city to wander around in a leisurely way as there is so much beautiful faded grandeur, some of it slowly being restored. Palermo has got a bit over busy but the adjacent areas like General Belgrano, Chacarita and Villa Crespi are the new Palermo!

You will come across new trends such as vermuterias and the best gelatos! It’s a very relaxed lifestyle so it’s nice to have a leisurely lunch like a Porteño. Go to a tango show and even if you have two left feet a tango lesson. On our first visit many years ago, we did a private half day tour by car and it was really useful to orientate oneself and see which places you want to spend more time in. I wouldn’t bother with La Boca.

I’ve been slightly obsessed with BA since I first saw Evita as a child (the musical, I’m not that old! I’ve also genned up a lot on the real history as opposed to the Rice/LLoyd Webber version since then). I’m hoping that if we survive CDMX unscathed in a few weeks then OH will let me plan a South America trip! Faded grandeur is my heaven.

She was a remarkable woman, ahead of her time. The Evita museum in BsAs has fascinating memorabilia, photographs and TV footage. Only problem is that her or her husband’s legacy – Peronism, has busted the country! In CDMX you will be able to enjoy the similarly remarkable and extraordinary but difficult and tragic life of Frida Kahlo.

Thanks something to think on . .

So outbound and inbound booked will return from Rio so have the outline just need to work out practicalities.

Thanks to BA compensation including a £150 for terrible lounge experience in MCO probably have enough to pay for the flight out there. So saving on taxes probably around £600 to pay for nice hotel.

The antique shops (basically the contents of emptied mansions) are jaw-dropping, as are
the bookshops and the level of culture in general.
And I can imagine @JDB in a box at the Teatro Colón: world class with risible prices.

Make sure you’re in BA on a Sunday and allocate several hours to the San Telmo market if you like that sort of thing. I’ve been to markets all over the world but that one is indelibly etched on my brain as by far the best.

But don’t take valuables, keep money hidden etc, as it’s rife with pickpocketing/mugging more than just about anywhere I’ve visited as well. One of the tour group I was woth was mugged twice in 2 days in BA, but then he could hardly have stood out more with a large camera/lens jutting from his extended belly.

I’m hoping to be back there early next year.

In Madrid S4 Iberia lounge. Came last night to avoid anxiety as have 13.15 flight to Santiago (then Patagonia ,BAs,Iguazu finally Rio.

Queue for Passports took 30mins after the train from the main 4 terminal to 4S. So give yourself an hour from arriving at Terminal 4 to the lounge.
