We were booked on LH 929 from LCY to FRA on the 26th August in order to catch LH 6914 from FRA to INN landing in INN at 13:50. (all on one ticket)
The flight from LCY to FRA was delayed meaning we missed the connection. We were automatically rebooked onto a flight landing at 17:50. This fight was cancelled due to weather. We needed to be in Innsbruck by lunch time the next day to take part in an event. The only way to do this was to fly from Frankfurt to Munich in the morning of the 27th and catch a train from Munich to Innsbruck.
Lufthansa booked us through to Munich but said they wouldn’t pay for the onwards train to Innsbruck (about €30 each), as it was more than 200 miles away. Is that allowed? After the weather cancellation they auto booked us on a flight landing at 13:50 the next day which was too late for our event.
Additionally they put us up in a hotel overnight which came with an €18 voucher for food. As it was late we stopped at an open restaurant on the way to the hotel to make sure we could get something to eat. Our meal came to about €31 (no alcohol)- am I able to reclaim this? Additionally as the flight was so early the hotel breakfast wasn’t open so bought some pastries in the airport.- Can I claim this?
On the way back we were on the 28th August LH 6915 from Innsbruck to Frankfurt and then LH 934 from Frankfurt to LCY supposed to land at LCY at 17:10. The Innsbruck to Frankfurt flight was delayed so we missed the connection again. All remaining LH flights to London were sold out so they put us on a flight to Heathrow the next day finally landing at Heathrow at 10:40. Again they put us in a hotel overnight, but as we had more time we went into Frankfurt City Centre for dinner rather than use the €18pp vouchers at the hotel they gave us. We spend a fair amount between 2 of us having dinner (about €130 inc tip which included about €15 of beer). Are we able to claim any of that meal back?
Per the advice of Lady London I tried to find out the reason for delays on expert flyer a few days ago, but couldn’t see how. I’ve also heard that LH can be a bit of a pain to get money out of. I suppose the first step is to use whatever process they have, but if that fails can you use MCOL(?) or would I have to go through some German equivalent?
Was there any reason you opened a new topic instead of keeping everything on your original thread?
@Ecno I wouldn’t try to overanalyse this and would just make a claim for the delay compensation (for the full journey each way, not each of the four flights) together with all the various items you mention and see how they respond. I don’t think they will very willingly pay for the dinner in Frankfurt as LH will try to say the €18 (hope that was per person) discharged their Article 9 duties, but even €18pp sounds very little and hopefully you can demonstrate that it was unreasonable/insufficient (and return the vouchers), although by having one dinner for €31, that argument is rather weakened. You can use MCOL or SOP (their arbitration scheme) if you don’t think what they offer is acceptable.

As that was in a days old bits comment section, had none of this information in and was really just trying to make sure I didn’t agree to anything in the stress at the airport that would stop be claiming something in the long run. And even as suggested by yourself it would be more useful to have in the forum in case anyone wanted to search for it in the future.
Not sure why you want to be such an arse about it.
@Ecno a short, civil answer saying you created a new thread under the relevant header because you’d realised your original question was incorrectly placed in Bits / the Daily Chat thread was all that was required.
I was perfectly civil and raised it as a question and you could have just clarified without the personal insult. If I want to be an arse you’ll know 🙂
