With the pending expiration of many miles and more miles at the end of March, I was looking to use them for redeeming in first (really what they are meant for) and cannot find availability to anywhere almost regardless of dates. Any tricks I am missing?
Lufthansa and SQ are highly restrictive on First Class seats for awards.
I believe with Lufthansa, if they release any it’s not more than 2 weeks before the flight and maybe only days. Both airlines also have restrictions that favour their own elites.

The 2 weeks thing is for booking from partner airlines schemes.
In general, seats often up at very short notice, or is scattered and infrequent at future dates.
Availability is harder than ever to find as a consequence of the pandemic – lots of people with miles to spend and a desire to travel, many routes still not back up to full speed.
Be sure to search for routes that have F. It is easier to find availability for shorter or non-USA routes like DEL, HND, PVG, MEX than it is for the longer routes or more popular USA routes, eg MIA, IAD, SFO, LAX, EZE, GRU, SIN
Best availability at the moment is on the FRA-HND route at least it was a couple of weeks ago.
Yes, 2 week rule is only for partners.
Lufty availability is FAR tighter than it was pre covid, in general, based on my admittedly limited searches over the last year.
