Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Lost /stolen Luggage

Wow. There’s a podcast ready for publishing!! 😉

After BA lost our luggage TWICE last year (eventually reunited) I purchased some Tile tags – the Pro ones are around £25-£30 and have a better range than AirTags/Samsung. The only downside is that it costs extra for location history. But a great bit of tech, and saves you waiting at the baggage belt when you know your bags never made it onto the aircraft!

Agree, that is the main reason I got them. Saves hrs waiting at the carousel if you bag is still on another continent.

    Update.
I contacted iberia today as the bike box is damaged, looks like someone took a Stanley blade to it, but probably just snagged somewhere on its tour of Scotland and Birmingham.

Ibrea tried telling me that I should of reported the damaged at the airport? Which one i said? You guys have taken my bag from London, to Scotland to Birmingham and back to Scotland…
I’m not sure iberia have a clear policy for late luggage which is damaged, he had to refer to a colleague. Eventually informing to add this claim to my essential items claim.

I’ve submitted all the location history ( there was 10days worth) to support thier investigation into where it was damaged.

My gut feel is they won’t bother with any investigation, they should offer repair/replacment at the same time they reimburse for the essential items.

Anyone know how long this process takes?

Glad to hear you got your bike back ok!

It’s always a tense time waiting for it at baggage claim, last year I finally cracked and added a tracking tag.

If you’re considering a hard box, I recommend bikeboxalan dot com

I’ve used mine for almost 15 years now, must have done 50-60 flights, there’re plenty of scrapes and gouges, but purely cosmetic, inside has been well protected.

Iberia’s CS is sometimes quite bad and they will insist you report the damage at the airport etc.

I found that simply claiming the whole cost of the flight from Amex sometimes works to get them to start looking at the issue properly.

Also, calling the CS number and asking to speak in English (something most people would do here, but not always obvious to those speaking Spanish) does help as you get more experienced employees.

Next time ( ironman Phu Quoc is already booked 🫣) I’m investing in a top end ridged bike box and somm very clear contact details attached

    @kiley
    – very glad you’ve eventually got it back.
My daughter rates her Shok Box highly. Not cheap but as she’s pointed out her bikes are worth way more than her car 🙂.
Come and do Ironman Tenby – no stress of the bike going walkabout and an amazing weekend to boot for competitors and spectators !

    @kiley
LCW is also a great weekend ( a bit less frantic than Ironman WE) . She said the sea was really rough at Ironman Tenby in the September too ( she did LCW with you ) .After she crossed the finish line at Ironman Tenby she vowed never to do Tenby again . A week later again all the pain had been forgotten and she signed up for Ironman Tenby ‘23 🤣🤣 ( where the heat was ridiculous and although she struggled on the run she finished).
She’s decided not to compete at Ironman Tenby this year but will be doing LCW ( all three events ) with her club mates as thats ‘fun’ …😳.IMHO all you Ironmen are totally bonkers 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Just received a response from Iberia ref essential items and damage:-

After receiving and studying the claim associated with the property irregularity report under reference number LHRIB62039 , Iberia issued compensation for 363,60 Great British Pounds, which you will receive within approximately 45 days.

Regarding the damages on your baggage, please, note that we have not received yet the requested documents. Without this information we are not able to process your request of compensation. We kindly request that you send us the following documents replying to this email (please, select “Reply”):

    – Invoice for the repair of the damaged baggage, where it is established the price, the date and the workshop in charge of the reparation.

    – Irreparability certificate, this should be issued by a technical workshop, where they can verify your special bag is beyond repair.

    – Invoice for the replacement of the damaged bag, this invoice must be an original, screenschots, or online cost of the item would not be considered valid.

I’m not sure why it takes up to 45 days to reimburse for essential items, but I’m in no rush.

And I have no idea why they are suggestion I have not provided requested information. This is thier first request to myself.

Are iberia making it difficult to claim for the damage? I’ve sent images of the damage, backed up by the GPS tag data showing where the bag was located and the number of neccesary journeys. Also sent evidence of the cost when new.

Ther message seems to say I need to get the bag repaired, replaced or certified beyond economical repair before they will compensate.

Luggage repair shops aren’t than common around my area of the UK. Does anyone have any recommendations of luggage repairers who would provide a quote and are able to do a decent repair or confirm its beyond economical repair ?

Spanish bureaucracy has to be experienced to be believed! Sometimes if you contact the manufacturer or retailer they can suggest what needs to be done to get an item inspected or repaired. I don’t think there would be any actual repair shops where I live, either!

https://www.fixmybag.com/ Is the website for K2Global (the guys BA used). They have a service that charges you to confirm your bag needs repair for insurance and the like. You can also send the bag to them (£15) and they will quote the repair price.

I have used them and they work well.

Indeed IB is being difficult because I had my luggage broken at the airport and they simply asked me how much I paid and gave me a little less (like 10% less per year) for a damaged zipper.

Great news on getting the bike back. If Iberia continue to be difficult you could write a song about the experience!

I’d be inclined to charge Iberia mileage at HMRC rates (which are not peanuts) for any journeyI had to make to a luggage repair place, as well. Or certainly any courier coats.
