Just had a spainsh email from sita.aero (I am assuming it’s iberia) regarding the courier for 1 x bicicleta with my delivery address.
The air tag has gone dark so I’m assuming it’s making it’s way down the A1 /M1 to my home address
Fingers crossed I’ll have it either late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
ack
It sounds like a resolution may be close! How many triathlons has the bike done now, lol.
More than I have….which would not be hard 😂
Good news that a resolution seems close.
I am however a little disappointed there wasn’t an installment where Kermit and Freddo get to run amok in a baggage warehouse rifling through thousands of bags playing “bike-hunt”. 🤣
They’ll be along shortly if Rob retrieves my latest effort which got declared spam after I stupidly made an edit to it.
I wonder what time I can stop checking this thread tonight? The bicicleta could be delivered late!
Bag update
After two days of my bag being on a “same day” courier service, it has started to move from the warehouse near Edinburgh Gateway train station.
I have a txt informing me it will arrive between 20:00-22:00 today.
Hopefully, when it arrives this will will be the end of the saga.
Just the reimbursement from iberia for essential items to chase down and alls well that ends well.
Fingers crossed for zero damage to my precious bike.
It’ll be filthy on arrival. I am convinced delayed baggage delivery vans double up during the potato harvest.
One of our cases came off the carousel last year encrusted with chocolate – the mind boggles!
Awaiting the outcome with bated breath, @kiley!
I have Samsung Smarttag2 in my luggage and it was reassuring to see it was onboard the aircraft earlier today.
But in related news I had a message from BA today via my BAEC app informing me that my luggage was available for collection on baggage carousel 9 at T5. This is a good bit of helpful information. And obviously a new thing BA is doing.
The only downside is that I only noticed the message when I got home and my phone connected to my home WiFi. I am not sure what time I would have got it at the airport. I think I must have received it in the airport but oddly, I didn’t use my phone at the airport as OH was in contact with cab Co. As it was, I arrived at the carousel and saw our luggage on the belt so had no wait at all.

I really hope not, but I have already considered the scenario of it being transported in a Edinburgh Plastering Services van.
I really hope it’s not damaged, I can handle some cosmetic stuff, but carbon bikes don’t do like impact damage.
Next time ( ironman Phu Quoc is already booked 🫣) I’m investing in a top end ridged bike box and somm very clear contact details attached.
Just checked tag and it’s in Preson!

That is the reason I use Airtags. Leaving LHR, the ground staff were just about to exit aircraft, close the doors and prepare the aircraft for pushing back. I could see my bike box was still in the terminal, so I flagged with the flight attendants who spoke to the ground staff before they closed the doors. 5 minutes later the bike box gets loaded.
It is possible there could of been a delay in the location data, but I didn’t want to take any chances.
Also, when we arrived in Madrid, we had to collect and recheck bags. The bike took 2.5hrs to appear at the oversize luggage area. If it wasn’t for the airtag telling me the bike had arrived and was doing the rounds within Madrid airport I would for sure of reported the bag as not delivered.
I agree they are extremely helpful. As has been reported by you @kiley, it’s helpful to have some advanced knowledge of where your things are. I do hope you are reunited with you bike undamaged very soon. Looks positive though. And also hope Iberia pays up soon too for the stuff bought out of necessity.
@kiley, we’ll be on the train back to Preston tomorrow evening if it’s still there 😂

Thanks,
it has arrived! Bike looks OK, bike carrier looks like it’s seen better days. Iberia have kindly added a nice hole. It looks liked it has been sliced, maybe just snagged on something during its extensive travels.
At this stage I’m just very relieved to have everything back. Full inspection and rebuild in the morning.
Phew! This definitely merits a HFP article. “Have you ever wondered what happens when your luggage doesn’t arrive with you” or something similar.

Thanks Nothern Lass, feels like a storm in a tea cup now. Exacerbated buy a samsung smart tag, some wild and wonderful hypothesise and my paranoia.
Buts that what I love about this forum.
Thanks all for reading, replying and supporting over the last 10 days.

@Kiley photo the hole damage to the bag? esp with another pic of the overall condition. Does not sound like acceptable level of wear and tear if it’s been punctured and is no longer waterproof. I’d enclose the tracking of the tags too to show excess mileage caused this! might as well add it to your claim. Also check contents ?
Relieved it’s back though….pleased for you
This Bag must be on show at the next HfP party.
It has already gone on a UK tour!, perhaps a t-shirt with the dates and location on the back available as souvenirs.

I’m sure I saw Bicycle Box in 1884 at Teesside Poly student Union after John Peel recommend them …
@BA Flyer – I know we’re quite a mature demographic here but 1884 is some going 😂
@NorthernLass well spotted. My brain just automatically read 1984. 🙂

Yeah ! So pleased to read it turned up. albeit a bit battered and bruised, it’s been quite the journey.
Glad you’ve got your bike back, thanks for keeping us updated. Hope all is well on closer inspection.

Mine did as well and I didn’t spot it when I reread after I posted.
BTW I was at Teesside Poly from 1983 – 87 so I could well have seen Bicycle Box perform!
