I have the main reward card cards that earn Avios and upgrade vouchers but have enough Avios to last several years and some reward vouchers are expiring as I can’t use them all. I’m not that bothered about earning more Avios to convert to Nectar etc.
Therefore I’m looking for a new credit card with cashback or the ability to earn points on other airlines. Lloyd’s pays 0.5% cashback and then 1% over £15k and HSBC pays out in points that can be transferred to many schemes.
I do have a curve card which is largely useless these days but do use the small fronted allowance and ATM withdrawals. I’m wondering two things:
1) do either of these cards work with curve, ie the curve card isn’t blocked by the card providers?
2) what are the reward earning rules if you exceed your credit limit and pay it off? ie Virgin’s CC you can pay off your card mid cycle but only earn points for 1x credit limit. Barclaycard you can do the same but earn points for 4x credit limit. Is the cashback or points earning on these cards capped? I can put personal expenses through at work ( including travel) hence can easily exceed the 1x credit limit for more cashback earning opportunities. However, this is only interesting if points or cashback is earned beyond the 1x credit limit.
Thanks
Only speaking from HSBC’s point of view: the card does work, but it will not give you points. A small number of merchants will also trigger a cash advance fee as well. It did use to be a very fruitful way of both topping up points (to HL ISAs) along with the 56 days interest free credit a few years back, but no more…
Cant comment about Lloyds.

Seconded. HSBC stopped giving reward points for curve a while back both on the WE and the Premier CC. Don’t really put much through it anymore..
Thanks. Any experience on the Lloyds card?
I maybe a fluke, but Curve transactions on a HSBC WE card does give me points. Just logged on to check.
Normal spending does but anything cash like etc doesn’t & hasn’t for a long time
Bumping this thread as considering Lloyds card – any feedback for how it treats Curve fronted to NS&I or equivalent?

Unsure about NS&I and co. But I put a PayPal tin on curve through Lloyds and ive been charged a cash fee with interest as its a ‘Cash like ten’ So assuming same will happen with anywhere else.

Thanks for sharing. Will avoid them and go for NatWest rewards instead
