Will be flying out of LHR T5 on BA to Singapore in Economy – Are there any lounges that offer complimentary access with the Amex Platinum card? I cancelled mine recently but still have the physical card so not sure if they’d scan it?
But they will scan it so you’re stuffed
Thanks – does it have to be a Plat card in my name?
You would be extremely lucky if they did not check the nane.
Do you have time for a friend to give you a Sup?
Great idea – Didn’t think you could get a supp for someone outside your house (I’ve never tried!). WIll do that, thanks!
Remember that only the first supp is free, so won’t work if your friend already has one open.
Thanks – looks like my mate has cancelled his plat card too.
Called BA to see if I can upgrade to business (although it’s a redemption booking) but BA won’t allow any changes on any Singapore flight before 20th Jan (as expected). The CS agent confirmed there are 7 seats left in business and I can ask at check in for a price to upgrade.
I’ve never upgraded on the day for a flight before – does anyone have any experience on this as to what I can expect to pay and what is reasonable? To clarify, this is upgrading from Economy to Business. So far, I’ve only paid the taxes (£342) for a LHR to SIN flight and 45,500 avios for two of us
Thanks as always!
Upgrade at checkin doesn’t come with lounge access for some airlines. Call them to confirm.
To clarify, this isn’t just for lounge access – it’s because HfP has turned me into a monster. I was happy with economy my entire life until I was introduced to HfP and now I sometimes sniff at a mediocre First lounge haha
I am the same. Since discovering HfP and FT, I can’t fly anything lower than business long-haul. It was really bad when I had to fly once in PE from Hong Kong for work because all business seats were sold out. I survived, but never again.😂
Thanks – does it have to be a Plat card in my name?
Yes, because lounge receptionist will ask for your card *and* boarding pass. If the two don’t match, you’re not getting in.
However, on T5 Plaza Premium, you can negotiate an entry fee with the receptionist in person if you don’t have a card that gets you in for free. If you try to prebook online you’ll see something like £50, which is certainly not worth it, but speaking to the ‘dragon’ may get you a more favourable price…
