Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Lufthansa long haul (Asia to UK) – B747-800 or the A350-900?

I am looking at cashing out my LH Miles for a redemption booking from Singapore to UK (in Business).
I can only see availability on LH, and it’s either the 747-800 via Frankfurt, or the A350-900 via Munich.

I believe A350-900 on this route uses the old seats (still 2-2-2 not the newer staggered 1-2-1 arrangement) but not as old as on the 747-800.
If it was that simple I’d go with the A350…but…I have never flown the 747-800, I I kinda feel I won’t bother again either.

So I’m kind of tempted to just to tick it off.

However am I missing any bigger considerations I should factor in?

I flew MUC to BKK on an A359 last year.
Newish plane, but with an overall combined hard+soft product that I thought was actually worse than club world on newer 787 aircraft (pre club suite basically).

We flew LH business class to Hong Kong on a 747-8, upper deck both ways from Frankfurt.

Nice to get the rare opportunity to fly on one, but the seating isn’t great to say the least and I also put it below the old CW sleeper seat in terms of ranking of business class products I’ve flown on.

On the plus side, flying back in mid-Feb 2020 the plane was virtually empty so we each had a pair to ourselves!

Thank you both. Seems like either option is poor, so I may as well go with the novelty factor. The poor overall product may explain the reason only LH flights are available for redemption.

If the schedule was much better on one over the other I’d choose that. If not, and if you have any interests in planes at all I’d go with 747 as chances to fly obe is now very rare.
