Forums Other Airport lounges LH connection – MUC vs FRA?

Which airport would you recommend for an easy connection?

Are any of the lounges worth stopping at? We have amex plat and dragonpass.

Edit: Adding that both flights will be non-schengen.

Munich gives the better transfer experience in my opinion. Frankfurt is the polar opposite with the potential for having to clear security and/or pass through immigration far higher.

Lounges however are nothing special. Lufthansa non-schengen at Munich is very utilitarian, whilst the terminal is actually quite nice. You will only get one person in per Amex plat. There are no 3rd party lounges in T2.

Frankfurt has slightly nicer Lufthansa lounges I think, but there’s not a great deal in it (aside from the First Class side). Dragon Pass will get you into the Air Canada lounge – I had high hopes of this but ultimately the catering was identical to Lufthansa’s.

Munich everyday of the week. FRA can be atrocious especially transferring Schengen to non-Schengen. Lounges are much-of-a-muchness.

I always used to notice that for the same start and end destination, routings via MUC filled up much more quickly and tended to be slightly more expensive than via FRA.

Munich is a much more interesting airport generally. Though you have a better choice of more reasonably priced accommodation if you need to stay at or near FRA.

Beware if you get rerouted due to rescheduling or cancellation though – a great risk you’ll be rerouted if it’s Lufthansa, via FRA even if you were originally routed via MUC. Unless it’s an actual stopover they are not obliged to use same connection points – only start and end poonts.

I rate the MUC lounges. I always say one would never go hungry in a Lufty lounge – plentiful good cheeses and deli meats, and plentiful good bread. With hot options if you please, but I am usually happy with the good bread compared to the poor stuff one gets in the UK
