I naively made a costly mistake this morning in assuming that my BA flight to LCA would have WIFI onboard. Please could someone advise me whether I can avoid the same mistake on my return which is on Saturday evening? Is there a way of finding out if this flight will have WIFI? Thank you:

According to Flightradar, it’s too early to know which plane will fly this. You can keep an eye on this a bit nearer the time (be aware planes can change right up till the day)

Then once the registration is known you can check this thread on FlyerTalk which gives current situation on installed WiFi by plane type and registration. Note that there are still a few of the new A320’s that haven’t been WiFi enabled yet.

It’s scheduled on a neo so according to that thread 25/27 of those have it. But even then you can never guarantee it ! But ime it’s usually working on BA shorthaul where present

Note that list is not always reliable- i flew G-TTNY last week which FT says is enabled (and crew made announcement about being able to use it once airborne), but it wasn’t!
If you turn your WiFi on once on the plane and look for a BaWifi router you should know if its enabled – if its not listed it is not going to work at all.

I flew this route in Jan and the aircraft was wifi enabled but it was pretty patchy throughout the flight, especially the first half – best plan accordingly.

I really appreciate these insights, thank you. I bet for a living and suddenly having no Wifi as the markets took shape this morning was a nightmare. Oddly enough, having been told that there was no WIFI on board I opened my laptop later on in the journey to watch a film and my device connected automatically for no charge. It was extremely weak and patchy but slightly better than nothing.

    Thanks again.

Last week I flew CE from TBS to LHR on G-TTSF an A320 neo. The WiFi did not work. A passenger in front asked what the issue was and was told by cabin crew that it was a brand new aircraft. When new aircraft are delivered WiFi is either not fitted/enabled (can’t recall exact wording) and this is done when the aircraft is sent for maintenance. Interestingly this plane is not listed on FT. Plane did seem new with tables fitted to middle seat and curtain separating CE and economy appeared new.

About 3 weeks ago (on the Friday LHR was closed] I flew LGW to LCA. I think it was also an A320neo but couldn’t get WiFi to work when I tried. Not sure LGW planes actually have it.
