Hi folks. I’d like some confirmation of my options if possible please?
The last leg (LHR-MAN) of our long haul trip has just been cancelled (in August)
We were due to arrive @ LHR @ 3:30pm, and our connection to MAN was due to depart at 6:05pm. The cancellation of this 6:05pm departure means the next option is at 9pm. This is too long.
A relative has offered to pick us up from Heathrow and drive us back. Is there any form of “inconvenience” payment we could receive from BA for this? (I’ve seen threads before for trains, but not for driving). If so, how best would we “secure this” (just leave the booking as is, and make the claim after)
Thanks In advance (feel free to redirect me to where this has been queried before if it has / is easier)
Unfortunately not. If you took the train you’d have more luck putting those tickets in. Otherwise you’ll need to request a refund of that leg but expect it to only be a few quid pp !
If you wait you can claim any meal expenses during that period
Thanks @SamG – might try my luck with the Heathrow “pick-up fee” and “toll road” too…
You’ve raised a good point re: leg refund as considering squeezing an extra night out of this issue (still being collected at Heathrow) but I am guessing in asking for an extra night we would effectively:
A) forfeit any rights to reclaim anything at all
B) risk the taxes and fees being recalculated as we choose to chop off the last leg (concern is that we booked our flights a year ago and they are coming back from the US so I’m pretty certain they’d get recalculated at the newer higher costs… extra £200 each maybe??)
If you are asking would BA put you on a LHR-MAN the next day rather than you take the 9pm then they may allow that (availability permitting) but the hotel would be down to you.
Apols @ChrisC – I meant an extra night in the US (which would mean we land in the UK on a Saturday which is easier for collection by car from LHR)
You’ve made me realise though that if we did change our arrival at Heathrow from Friday to Saturday, we could request to overnight @ Heathrow on Saturday night so they wouldn’t need to recalc any taxes and fees
We could then collect bags on Saturday, jump in the car and skip the last leg to Manchester (but we’d be unable to claim anything… which sounds like it would be difficult anyways so extra night in US, no ticket fee recalc and more convenient collection from LHR by car 🤔)… all assuming a recalc would occur at an increased cost if final destination is changed
Edit: Given the current baggage efficiency at LHR tho, I’m thinking even this plan could create problems
