Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid the 3:2 amex to kris flyer reduced transfer rate by transferring to another amex airline loyalty scheme and then redeeming on Singapore airlines?
    Thanks

But closed to new applicants I believe.

Depending on which flights you are looking for, Virgin Atlantic might work and currently has a 30% bonus offer.

You can transfer to Marriott Bonvoy and then to Krisflyer. You’ll get 0.833 miles per MR point.

Was that not only when Marriott had the 30% bonus?

Usual rate off the top of my head would be:

    Amex MR to Bonvoy 2:3
    Bonvoy to Krisflyer 60,000 : 25,000

So 40,000 MR points becomes 25,000 Krisflyer.

You are right froggee. The rate I quoted was for Bonvoy Amex. Sorry for the confusion.

The only other option I can think of is if OP had Amex cards in other countries, he can transfer MR points and then hopefully get a better rate to Krisflyer.

Thanks for your replies, especially @froggie.
I needed 48k kris flyer miles for a redemption which would have meant a 72k MR from Amex with up to a 15 day wait.

I called Virgin who requested the SIN to MNL flight with SQ and they responded whilst I was still on the call and booked the flight at 40k Virgin miles plus £76. A huge saving, not only on the MR’S but on cash prices which were £1,200 in business (economy £500)

Really useful to know as the agent explained all SQ redemptiins need to be done on the phone.

Also booked 2 VN tickets with Virgin points whilst they are outside the dynamic pricing of Virgin’s own flights.

SQ do not release longhaul biz to most partners inc Virgin so limits options somewhat for most itinerarys. But glad it worked out for you on this one!

Vietnam are pretty generous with award availability especially on the London flights when other options going East can be limited
