I have been given a table for the Frequent Traveller Awards on Thursday evening (22nd), which takes place at The May Fair hotel, just behind Green Park station.

I have a couple of places available for readers. I will be hosting the table – unfortunately Rhys is off travelling and can’t make it.

    Here’s the agenda:

    6:30pm – Welcome reception

    7:30pm – Dinner is served

7:45pm – The award ceremony begins

    9:15pm – The event concludes

Dress code is smart casual – most of the attendees will have been at the Loyalty Summit conference during the day so no-one has time to dress up.

If you’d like to come, please email me at rob at headforpoints.com before 9am Wednesday. If more people respond than I have places, I will pick at random.

Absolutely no charge, but you need to show up because your meal is already paid for. No ‘plus 1’s’ allowed – if you’re not into miles and points you really won’t understand what’s going on!  It’s a good way to get a better feel for the people who run these programmes, meet a few key people in UK travel loyalty and, hopefully, have a few drinks and a laugh with other readers.

    Thanks
    Rob

I think you’re underpricing it Rob! In my inbox this afternoon. They had me with the name of the restaurant right up until the price…

Your invite to a private dinner at Frog by Adam Handling

    Dear Froggee,

You’re invited to an exclusive private dinner at Frog by Adam Handling, one of London’s top Michelin-starred restaurants. You’ll indulge in a three-course dinner and wine pairing, exclusive to HSBC clients, which spotlights Handling’s commitment to sustainability with quality British produce and zero-waste techniques. Seats are priced at £350 per person and predicted to sell out quickly, so make sure to secure your spot.

How come you get emailed this stuff and I, as HSBC Jade, do not?!

Hah! Maybe they curate it based upon the names of the customers? If it makes you feel better, I’m Jade also. But given that I’m up in Jockland it’s a bit wide of the mark really. A classic Margherita at the Devil’s Kitchen is about as exotic as I get.

Maybe your invite will be along soon?

It won’t, because HSBC has never sent me any stuff like this. Perhaps I ticked a box once upon a time.

You absolutely totally definitely must have ticked a box. I believe it was a wise decision. I imagine if I now wished to opt out of marketing then I would need to download a paper form, complete it in triplicate, and present myself at HSBC Canary Wharf (despite my branch being Hanover Street, Edinburgh) with both sets of grandparents in tow to vouch for my good character.

If it makes you feel better you are missing out on HSBC book club, offers to buy a KitchenAid artisan at 20% off and other such guff. Mrs Froggee actually took a pal to a free gin tasting event. The hook for that was the “premier” tasting package which apparently meant a free tote bag with a gin glass in it. When she got there it turned out it was the bog standard gin tasting experience. They legged it after 20 minutes and went elsewhere.

It really is beyond ridiculous how poor the offering is and I’d downgrade back to premier if it wasn’t for getting the world elite card for “free” in exchange for my £10.50 quarterly subscription to Jade.

I can’t believe after dozens of consecutive Thursday nights free I actually have a flight at 6pm on Thursday… I would have been delighted..

Just as an aside, Adam Handling’s place in Old Windsor is very nice. Service was a bit hit and miss last time but the food is really good, not pretentious but imaginative and very tasty. It’s a pub style place and really good for a lunch or just a drink and some light bites.
