Planning a trip to New York -just wondering which of JFK or EWR are better connected for public transport to downtown Manhattan

I’ll have cleared customs at Dublin

Depends where you are staying and how heavy your luggage is, sometimes there really is not much in it at all.
Play around with Directions on google maps.

As above, not much in it time-wise, but EWR is definitely a less brutal experience than JFK! EWR did used to command a hefty premium if you were taking a taxi due to having to cross into another state, though.

I think EWR is the easier airport as its smaller and the journey to manhattan is nicer than the one from jfk. I’d probably base it more on airline, flight times and cost.

If I dont have enough luggage that warrants a cab/uber, I don’t mind taking the train into Penn station from EWR. Often I can pick a hotel that’s reasonable walking distance from Penn station. Can’t say the same for LIRR to Grand central with the Jamaica transfer.

I too find EWR more civil. JFK is an awful welcome and goodbye to the city.

Ceteris paribus I’d go for EWR and public transport is not too bad. But downtown manhattan may not be the easiest to get. IIRC airport train takes you to midtown. Then you’ll have to change to metro. Not the easiest with a lot of luggage or kids in tow.
