Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help JetBlue refusing to reimburse after cancellation

  • 13 posts

We were supposed to fly JetBlue from Boston to Chicago 2 weeks ago, but the flight was cancelled due to late arrival of the incoming aircraft. When the aircraft arrived, the pilots had timed out so there was a last minute scramble from JetBlue to find replacement pilots which was unsuccessful. Our original flight time was 16:45 hours but they only declared the flight as cancelled around midnight.

The JetBlue staff at the airport booked us on the same 16:45 flight next day but didn’t provide hotels for the night. They told us to book our own hotels up to $250, and then claim it back. I just claimed the hotel costs from them after coming back home, but they are refusing to pay up. They are saying that the circumstances were beyond their control and as a result my claim is inadmissible which honestly is BS.

Is there a way to claim the costs from JetBlue? Also, is there a compensation scheme in the US like we have it in EU & UK for cancelled and delayed flights?

    Thanks.

Do you have travel insurance? It will be easier to claim from that

Usually will not pay for a hotel for anything caused by “an act of god” e.g. weather so depends on why the inbound aircraft was delayed. They may offer a voucher for Jetblue as compensation but nothing beyond that
