Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Issues with buying Hilton Honors points

  • 7 posts

Has anyone else had problems when trying to buy Hilton Honors points online ? I keep getting errors from needing to change settings on my browser to allow the window to open, to allow cross-tracking and then after making all those changes it still says ‘We’re sorry, something went wrong with your transaction.‘

I have tried all the major web browsers as well as trying it on an iPad, Windows laptop and an android phone – still no luck.

I remember a few years ago, the website kept saying there was an error with my credit card information – despite trying a few different ones that had worked perfectly fine elsewhere. I gave up in the end.

I can’t seem to find a UK phone number for Hilton Honors to be able to sort this problem out either – all the numbers I have tried (including from their website) seem to be invalid. Anyone had any better luck ? TIA

A reader emailed me about an issue buying IHG points, and as they use the same back-end company it could be a general issue which will hopefully get solved.

In order to use an account to buy points after 30 days, would the required activity be OK if it was a restaurant spend? Does the activity need to be a stay? Less related, but still HH, is there a way for myself and my partner to avail ourselves of free breakfast (both gold), with our children, without booking separately. It would be fine to book separately, but would be important to get interconnecting or neighbouring rooms, without the faff/uncertainty of emailing the hotel. Thanks for any information.

Just make sure you allow third party cookies

I had issues before purchasing Marriott and IHG points. Apparently sometimes points.com sets up their systems with the incorrect merchant info. It was confirmed to me by credit card companies. The annoying thing is that they actually pre-authorise the amount so be careful! I contacted Marriott who then reported it to their technical team and it was resolved within a week. With IHG they were able to process it over the phone.

Hi, I have the same issue, was your issue resolved?

My issue with not being able to buy Hilton Honors points is still unresolved to this day (I’ve allowed third party cookies as well as cross-tracking in the browsers – still throws a error message of one type or another). I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve tried.

Is there a phone number that I can call to buy them that way instead ?

It hasn’t worked for a couple of weeks, no phone number.

Yes, I’m having the same problem. I have tried it dozens of times on my Mac (using different browsers), iPhone and a Windows PC and I just get an error message every time. I’ve sent an email and they have a logged a case for me but I have a very low expectation that it will be fixed any time soon.

Same problem. Went around it by using player 2’s empty account, buying there (100% bonus), transferring to myself. Mad that a Gold account with long history can buy nothing, while a account with 0 stays can buy 160k points and transfer them out immediately.

I am facing exactly the same issue and can’t find a way round it no matter what I do with settings. It’s very frustrating! Has anyone made any progress?

I also had a problem using Safari but I found that it worked using Chrome.

Buying the Hilton points will be expiring soon. Does anyone know if this promotion runs often or the likelihood it will run again sometime in the future?

It comes along every few months.

Cool. That’s nice to know. Need some points to book a holiday for next year. So I’ll wait around a few months. Cheers

Anybody get a resolution to this issue with buying Hilton points? I am having the same issue getting the error message “Error: There was a problem with your credit card information. Please try again or try a different card.” Tried different credit cards, different computers, different browsers. Called Hilton. Called my credit card company. Nobody seems to know why it won’t work. And Hilton will only allow payment for points from their website.

    Hoping somebody figured it out!

    *** ISSUE RESOLVED ***

I was having an issue buying Hilton points where my credit card info would not be accepted no matter what credit card I used. Found out it was an issue that Points.com had to fix on their end related to my account since they administer these points programs. If you are having a similar issue, I suggest you contact Points.com at pointscustomersupport@points.com to help resolve the problem.

Anyone been to the Hilton Ras Al Khaimah beach resort? Looks quite reasonable if you want a beach access villa

Did they explain what the issue was? I’m having issues buying too. E-mailed points.com, but no response as yet.

Your question will get lost in this thread re points purchases. Suggest you post it in destination advice if you’re planning a RAK holiday and want wide ranging hotel ideas.

Being the original poster of this buying points debacle post, I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to piscomatt because his suggestion of contacting the points.com customer support services (pointscustomersupport@points.com) is the only resolution that worked for me after all these years. Thank you so much piscomatt !
