Hi everyone,
Planning a flight flying 2 and a half hours with Qatar, it’s an extra 14,000 and £82 in taxes for 2 over the economy price for business. Is it worth it, also it’s on a 737 max 8?
(Also it’s business not first like a lot of their short haul flights are)
Thanks in advance
“Worth it” in this context is so incredibly subjective, only you can decide. Are you Avios rich? Is it departing or arriving in DOH, and does the ticket/transfer itinerary permit and give adequate time for use of lounge?
Qatar Business is usually First on short haul which would get you access to the Al Safwa lounge in Doha, if you’re departing there. Well worth 14,000 Avios.
OP states in this case it’s business not first whatevers going on there. If this is correct, Al Safwa will not be included. Regardless, no 2h flight on a narrow body in business is worth £222 more than economy IMO. More significantly, I personally still don’t consider the 737 MAX 8 worth the safety risk at any price, this despite them now flying thousands of sectors daily. I’d rather pay the £222 extra to fly another aircraft.
Unfortunately it is a business ticket so would only get the al mourjan lounge? (Assume you get access with reward flights booked through BA)
It is a 1 am flight so probably would get a fair few hours in at the lounge which I probably would value more than the business class itself.
And regarding the safety of the max, I am lucky enough to dice with death when I take the ryanair Maxs’ a few times a month so at least Qatar will be a more comfortable death ☠️☠️
Always interesting to take onboard other people opinions though so thanks for the replies guys.
I flew Qatar Doha to Muscat a year ago, and as Rob says in First, there was no Business class, but no First seating either, all First passengers were seated in… Business Class! And yes access to Al Safwa.
However the flight was only an hour or so, and no amenity kits were offered.
The flights cost £88 plus 21,000 avios each, not much more than economy, and well worth it for the airport private check in experience and access to Al Safwa, seats, boarding etc.
Bear in mind though, if it is indeed a First flight, I believe Al Safwa is currently closed for refurbishment.
Unfortunately not first, I checked that already.
And mf176, not avios rich but have enough to cover the cost.
I’ll be in Doha for a few days before hand so can arrive at the airport whenever to make use of the lounge
To add to that award bookings do include lounge access so you should be able to access something even if Al Safwa is closed. If you considef yourself avios-rich at the monent then the decision gets easier. Note that there are other lounge options if you hold Priority Pass etc.
Qatar First and Business passengers have a separate entrance at Doha airport, you don’t even see any other passengers, certainly that was my experience from my First flight to Oman. Greeted at kerbside by a porter where luggage is taken and you are escorted to private room check and passport control – with a welcome drink! Thereafter private security, then escorted to the Al Safwa lounge. Haven’t flown out of Doha on Qatar Business yet but I would hope that it might be something similar but on a slightly less grandiose scale.
I remember thinking I could get quite used to this 🙂
The al mourjan lounge is a very decent lounge, Al Safwa is closed at the moment.
QR operates the same seats as first or business depending on destination. It’s not worth it for business unless you genuinely consider avios as free and can get more easily. If you have been to al Safeway before it’s worth a go once, but otherwise I wouldn’t pay that much for it
Ive got a return to Perth next year with Qatar which is business to Doha then 1st to Perth, same in return, 1st to Doha then Bus to LHR.
Would I be able to use the 1st lounge at LHR or just business as that leg is business?

It’s a combined lounge (business and first) in Heathrow and feels like first class than business. There is a separate lounge for those wishing to use a lounge on status alone.
