It’s a long shot, I know. I am taking this flight next week (🤞) to GCM. Bahamas has just dropped pre-flight testing and mask requirements. Cayman government is typically dithering over what to do, currently requires both. I am desperate to know how BA will deal with different legal requirements for different pax!

I believe BA, like most airlines, uses Timatic to check destination requirements, so will apply whatever it says there. I imagine the widget BA offers for passengers to look up requirements for various destinations draws on the same source data but is from Sherpa.

Thanks @JDB. What I mean is, as of today, that flight will be carrying some pax en route to NAS, who don’t need covid tests or masks, and other pax onwards to GCM, which requires both. Which set of rules is BA likely to follow? I can’t see the people travelling to NAS taking it well if they are told they have to wear masks for 9 hours due to the law in a territory they’re not actually travelling to!
If it’s anything like the two BA flights I have been on in the past couple of months they will tell you at the gate you must have a mask for the flight but that is it, crew didn’t enforce wearing it during the flight.

BA operates other routes with stops that have different rules eg LHR-SIN-SYD and LHR-GRU-EZE, and they will apply the rules for your final destination; they aren’t going to ask pax getting off in a country that doesn’t require a test to take one because the aircraft continues to one that does . In respect of mask wearing, that’s a totally different issue – BA currently says a mask is required from LHR to both NAS & GCM and GCM-NAS but not from NAS to LHR.
I was referring to the mask wearing! I would be one unhappy holiday maker if I was expecting not to have to wear a mask for 9 hours, then got told I actually had to wear one because about 20% of the other passengers were flying on to somewhere else. Especially as VS doesn’t require the mask on their NAS flight. Most people don’t even know the plane is travelling on to GCM and will be rather taken by surprise at this, I imagine. People will be checking their destination guide, I would think, not ba.com, as airlines seem to be getting a lot of things wrong lately.
@whuaremassive, a couple of people I know who flew this route over the past few weeks said the mask-wearing was strictly enforced!- This reply was modified 55 years, 4 months ago by .
To me, it’s a no brainer. It’s two separate flights. LHR-NAS complying with the Bahamas rules (no masks) as a destination and NAS-GCM according to Cayman rules (masks)… It just happens to be one flight number, but in reality it’s pretty much like if you were connecting on any other flight, no? I’d expect BA to follow the same logic.
Not according to @JDB and ba.com. I imagine the rationale is that it’s actually one continuous flight with no connection and therefore all pax have to comply with the same rules. Oh well, hope for the best, plan for the worst, as they say. But yes, you could land at NAS earlier that day having not worn a mask, then just pop one on for the 90-minute hop to GCM. Crazy.
The Sherpa tool is referencing the bahamas.com website, which still talks about mask requirement in public places. Can’t see anywhere talking about masks being dropped. Once that’s officially there I imagine it will propagate to the tools and airlines.
But according to JDB, it won’t make any difference if BA applies the rules of the final destination. Though they can’t be doing if they are insisting on masks from GCM to NAS, as the UK does not have a mask requirement now.
*Also VS not requiring masks on their LHR-NAS service as per their website.

I think @JDB was talking about test requirements for final destination, not masks.

I derived the mask information from BA, but it is also consistent with the current information on the Bahamian Govt Travel Compliance unit site updated on 19 June that it remains mandatory.
I’m not sure why we are having the discussion at all – on the day pax will either be asked to wear masks or they won’t…
Having recently had to wear one on the 16h45 flight to EZE and 12h30 flight to CPT, can’t say I’m especially sympathetic to those making a fuss about it.

I’m certainly not asking for sympathy. I just hate pointless exercises with a passion, and wearing a mask on a plane is definitely a pointless exercise, unless you wore a medical-grade one, properly fitted and didn’t take it off for the entire flight. But I applaud you if you did!
Anna, just came back from Gcm on Sunday. BA required masks on both outbound and return journeys although by the time we arrived back at LHR no one was wearing a mask. Get ready for high prices £9.70 for a pint at fidels. Pity you are west bay as excellent new bar and restaurant BluRock at the sheppy hospital Near East End.
Hi Alan – actually we are at Morritt’s for 2 weeks then Kimpton for 3 nights so will check out the new restaurant, thanks!
I have supplies packed 😬*Coffee, tea etc, rum (to be bought at LHR duty free), plus Dairy Milk and Branston Pickle for the dive staff 😂

Rules for the Bahamas changed on Sunday. The Americans are all saying they’re not being made to wear masks to GCM on AA, Delta etc so it’s a complete farce!

I’m not sure where you got the mask rule changing on Sunday from – as I commented earlier in the week, the Bahamas government Travel Compliance Unit website, updated on Sunday to reflect the changed entry requirements that took effect that day, still says in respect of travelling:- “Wear a Mask (Mandatory By Law)”.
Interestingly, the Bahamas Prime Minister was on our flight back from NAS. He was at the back of the plane and but I saw him trying to retrieve his bag from the front section and he was not wearing a mask then but was when he went down the steps to his awaiting Heathrow VIP car.
He was down the back?! He needs to start reading HFP 😂. I’m resigned to whatever they throw at us now, should have booked to go to Tenerife again! I had a look at the Blue Rock website, it looks great, about 10 mins drive from Morritt’s and has 2/3 things my teenager will eat, so ideal! I’ve also spent the last 3 years pining for the lobster spring rolls at Tukka so we’ll be going there a couple of times at least.
I’m guessing he was down the back because there was no room up front!!!! I tried plenty off the menu at BlueRock and found the quality very good and excellent attentive service (also worth taking advantage of happy hour prices for drinks). Hope you have a good trip……..enjoy Anna!
