IHG and creation are ceasing their partnership… so there won’t be a Creation IHG card after June…. whether or not you got an email doesn’t stop your card from being closed…
But surely we ought to be gettibg refunds if unable to get the voucher? The voucher was the primary reason for me to get the premium card with the fee.
Also got the email today. Very confused. Ok for the points. But are they cancelling the yearly voucher? From when? And they are keeping the fee for past year or refunding it? Not sure it works for me.
It’s simple… card runs until around June 27 when it will cease to be an IHG card. If you have spent £10k by then (since your last anniversary date) you will get a free night voucher. You will all get a prorate refund of the £99 annual fee.
Nowhere does it state that vouchers will be cancelled. This seems fair, and the IHG 4x promotion with soft landing for status seems like a real bonus.
What’s not clear is if a Diamond that was renewed for 2023 by purchasing Ambassador in 2022, will be rolled as Diamond into 2024 (it is not clear that it was ‘achieved’ in 2023) or will I need to purchase Ambassador again?

Alternatively look on the app at your spend counter hidden behind the points earned in the IHG rewards section below the ‘make a payment’ button. It will tell you how much you have spent (or how much you have still to spend to qualify for the free night). you can then look at the monthly balances and establish with simple arithmetic the start date of the statement that takes you back to the first spend in this anniversary year.On the one hand I think it’s positive, getting 4x points on stays will be a good earner especially as I have some intercontinental and regent stays at the end of the year.
However in terms of my creation card. I have rang them twice and been told two different anniversary dates now (21st and 22nd April). I was told that any spend after those dates but before closure, counts towards my £10k target for a free night voucher. However in the creation app, despite having spent nearly £5k since my anniversary date, the spend target is still showing as negative. I.e. Spend -£13,000 this year to earn my free night voucher.
It doesn’t seem to be tracking down which makes me think that even if £10k were spent, getting the voucher after June closure might be pretty difficult.
The latest message from IHG also makes me think that they are a long way off having a new credit card partner (sadly).
The counter will reset when the next statement is produced, and the spend in this month will show on a new counter as this is the first month of the new anniversary year.
@truthbetold – I’ll probably just renew my Ambassador at the end of this year and see what happens. IHG may have fixed the IT on this, maybe not, but I’ll not be asking them about it!
@northernlass you are probably right but as an occasional IHG user (mainly in conjunction with a free night voucher, especially before they fixed the Mr&Mrs Smith presidential suite loophole) I need to work out if a IC free night and Diamond (above Plat) is actually worth $200 if you have to buy a second flexible IC night, when IC are usually far more expensive than a fabulous boutique hotel (eg Lisbon). I may have missed something, but I only got Diamond originally by spending on Creation. Most likely to go to IC Malta or Porto (but no pool) this year or next and unlikely to go to Bora Bora or Maldives where it would be more valuable.

Still seems pretty debatable to me. If the voucher was a factor for deciding to pay the fee a pro-rata refund is not sufficient as a remedy. Hope someone raises this.
In my case I’ve put through some travel I had to book and gone through the yearly 10k. Hopefully voucher deposited in the next statement.

@wobblywings voucher won’t post until some time after June 27 is all processed and accounts moved over
For anyone trying to hit the £10k free night voucher target before closedown date, beware that there is an error on the website, it appears to include the £99 fee. The website says I have hit the target, the app says I am £85 short, adding up the statements matches with the app.
