Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IHG credit card – anything new coming?

  • 20 posts

I have been a loyal supporter of the Premium IHG Credit card for several years – I am not an international traveller on expense accounts – but have gained Diamond and Lounge status in recent years. I will miss the extra points that this card has brought. ( Recent stays in IC at Malta and Edinburgh and CP stays appreciated).

Is there any news/gossip on the grapevine of a successor to this card. Or do I revert to my free AMEX British Airways Credit Card.

    Your thoughts would be welcome.

What’s your view on IC Malta? I am tempted to stay there:)

Nothing in the pipeline for a new card known about. A few surveys done, but nothing concrete has come about.

I’ve stayed there and at the HIX next door. A nice hotel but not in the nicest area.

You can earn IHG points via the Virgin Atlantic free and plus cards at 0.75 and 1.5 IHG points per £ respectively if that’s of interest. My memory might be a bit off but a few months ago Rob referred to having advertising space booked by a surprising source, I think we were discussing hotel vredit cards at the time but I’m not certain.

Malta IC. Stayed in March using points (18000 per night) for a short break – as Diamond and Lounge access we were welcomed as special guests in the Lounge. Upgraded to a room overlooking the pool area. At 18000 points per night we rated this excellent value.
Lounge access = breakfast there, afternoon tea and early evening (spirit) drinks. We enjoyed the afternoon spread.
The hotel has been overtaken by developments around it – no direct beach access as such but a nearby beach there if wanted. Around the hotel night clubs have blossomed – so a little strange if you venture out in the evening.

Value for money and service 105%.

Malta has a controlled taxi price zones so its not a worry when you get in a taxi. Buses very reasonable too.
Looking to go again – but air fares seem to have doubled for next March.

Malta IC lounge is very nice and the staff are excellent but some of the rooms are really in need of renovation. The higher the floor the better
