Referencing the article back in 2015 on HfP – quick question my company uses Expedia to book hotels currently – so I cannot get points as per the article back then – I have no choice and cannot book direct myself etc. I called IHG today as I have a booking in Europe made this way for a few weeks time – they found my booking and put my IHG loyalty number on the booking but said I will most likely not get any points ….However what happens to my other benefits as a Platinum Card holder (from previous companies and private stays ?) Do I get them ? How does the hotel I am staying at know I am IHG platinum without me ‘manually’ coding my number to the booking by phoning IHG each time ? I have raised this with my company but not holding my breadth ! Any pointers on what I will/ will not get on an Expedia /internet booking would be helpful ! Thanks !
As you didn’t book directly through IHG any status benefits the hotel give you are down to their goodwill.
Given the changes to the scheme and the improved benefits I don’t see them doing much if anything for people in your situation.
Thanks Chris – all very tedious I agree – but if expedia take a big commission Totally understand ! I believe Hyatt and Hilton are not so binary so may try them next time – also talk to my corporate travel team to see if we can change the process which seems to be non sensical !
Remember corporate travel contracts are to benefit the company not you.
It’s likely they have some sort of rebate scheme via Expedia for putting a certain amount of business their way and they may not be amenable for people to go off piste and book their own and claim it on expenses.
