If I cancel my Amex after getting a 2-4-1 voucher is the voucher still valid?

My wife has received the voucher and I want to now cancel her card as we have Amex Platinum still, but Amex are saying she has to keep the card to use it to pay when the voucher is redeemed.I’ve read elsewhere this is not true – am I right? And does my wife have to hang onto the card she used to get the voucher, or does the voucher remain valid even if the card is cancelled? I’m sure this has been asked before, so sorry…
