Forums Payment cards American Express If a BA Amex Plus card is closed early is the upgrade voucher kept?

If a BA Amex Plus card is closed early and a partial refund given is the upgrade voucher for spending at least £10,000 kept or is it clawed back? Hopefully it will be kept, just as a companion voucher is kept if an AmEx Gold card is closed early after spending the required amount.

The BAPP voucher is the companion/241 one, there’s no voucher with the gold card AFAIK!

Are we talking about the upgrade voucher from spending £10k on the Barclays Avios Plus card? sounds like a couple of different cards and vouchers are getting mixed up here maybe?

It seems so – there wouldn’t be a partial refund on the BC though as it’s charged monthly.

Came to ask a similar question – I think OP is referring to the Companion Voucher.

I’ve just cancelled my BAPP and was told that my outstanding Companion Voucher, issued January 2022 and valid through January 2024, would become “invalid”. I think I’ve read on here before that that’s something Amex support staff are (erroneously) told to say and the Companion Voucher isn’t “clawed back” once it’s showing in your BAEC account. Is that right?

My understanding is that you can still use the voucher, you just need to pay for the taxes/fees on any Amex card?

Your understanding is correct, Amex have no idea whether your voucher is used or not. I just tell them I’ve already used it, they are none the wiser.

And yes any Amex to pay the fees is fine.
